MS might be timing a bigger 64bit push with Win8 and then by default the next version of IE as well. The IE team is right, 32bit is the one most used right now and has way more add-on support. I think the reasons make sense in the end.

Honestly you can run 32bit version of IE9 on 64bit win7 without any issue and since this hasn't come up till now (IE9 ahs been in dev for 12 months!) it seems no one saw much of a difference to complain.

If you have been reading Javascript oriented benchmarks that test 64-bit IE9, they do mention 64-bit IE9 has being slower in Sunspirder but they didn't know why because MS did not disclose it unless asked by the author of this article. If they tested 32-bit IE9, they wouldn't notice any difference.

Safari v4 (released in 2009) and v5 (released in 2010) on Mac OS X Snow Leopard are fully 64-bit while maintaining 32-bit plugin compatibility.

Like I mentioned it doesn't on Windows. The only browsers on Windows that support 64bit are Firefox 4 and IE8/9 and neither of those support 32bit plugins (so you're left with Java and now Flash, though that's really all you need).

Well at least we have one platform that has a fully working 64-bit browser that supports 32-bit plugins. Makes me wonder why Microsoft doesn't separate the plugins from the browser similar to Safari on Mac OS X. That way you can keep using 32-bit plugins, and even better the the entire browser won't crash when a plugin crashes. Or is this already the case with Internet Explorer 9?

That's how WoW64 works. This is true of any programs on Windows: 64-bit programs cannot access 32-bit plugins.

Also, tabs are plug-ins all have separate processes since Internet Explorer 8. In fact, this was done long before Google Chrome.

I meant 64 bit OS... sorry i was not clear..

Really Since you use 64bit (most) everyone else is too. Are you serious. Please stop assuming....

If you use the logic I've read in the reply's to non-pc .....

All Car makers need to switch to immediately making only electric cars, people wont stop using fossil fuels until car makers switch? Yet we dont have recharging stations and mechanics on every street corner that have experience in fixing electric cars. But since you think its time to do, or the lazy people will never adapt, then lets do it..
