I'm not saying people don't sometimes download more than one file, I just think it's likely that most people aren't downloading multiple files at once most of the time - which makes it the better case to primarily design for. It should obviously still be able to cope with multiple at once.

...

I might download 4-5 files at once (or through something like DownThemAll, 100-200 :shiftyninja:), very rarely do I ever care about the individual progress (total progress is more important IMO), and I only ever care about the download speed when it's lower than expected (200KBps vs. 600KBps, etc.) I don't use the taskbar progress much either as it blends in (I often have green-ish wallpapers, and the highlight makes it kinda hard to see)

So for me, hiding the total progress and all the items behind a single icon is a much nicer proposition than filling the UI with progress meters. If people don't like it they can always use an extension to change it, but they realistically don't need to show all this information by default.

The important question we're missing here is, when will this new Download Manager be available? Will it be in Firefox 12 or 13?

Most probably in Aurora 13... (but disabled)

Have there been any changes to the smart bookmarks, or the way that the syntax for searches is constructed? I had a smart folder set up for unsorted bookmarks, and I specifically wanted the most recently added items at the top of the list. I think I remember reading that the smart folders feature would be depreciated / removed entirely.

The folder still works, but now there's a glitch where the list repeats itself twice for some reason. The repeated items also can't be deleted. It seems they're like ghost items. Deleting the "original" bookmarks above it, will remove both, but any changes made are only reflected after I hover over another folder and then go back.

This was the syntax that I cobbled together:

place:folder=UNFILED_BOOKMARKS&sort=12&excludeQueries=1&maxResults=10&queryType=1
[/CODE]

Just to add to that, it certainly won't be in Fx12, as it has long left the station. New features will never land once the code has split off nightly (Fx12 is in Aurora).

Yeah.

Ok so its gonna land real soon now , like this week maybe?

IonMonkey is getting optimized really fast

Here you can track its performance : http://www.arewefastyet.com/?a=b&view=regress&runs=1000'>http://www.arewefastyet.com/?a=b&view=regress&runs=1000

(remove/edit &runs to get the graph for lesser number of runs, for eg http://www.arewefastyet.com/?a=b&view=regress)

^That looks loads better on the OSX version as the noise effect makes more sense. Plus it fits the overall colour scheme better, it looks more consistent. To me it looks way out of place on the Windows version design wise.

To me everything looks better design wise for Firefox on OSX, compared to Windows. :p

The latest Nightly is very buggy on the Windows 8 consumer preview, which is to be expected.

Yup that is for definite, the UI is completely messed up and glitching here and some web pages are messy too. Also downloads are not saving to where I have it set to save them, downloads also stop randomly or don't start until I click them in the downloads manager and right clicking a download to "open containing folder" is greyed out.

Yep, can't download any files or even change where my downloads go without it crashing. My bookmarks don't show up in the bookmarks sidebar either. I still use it to browse but have to use Chrome (which is much more compatible at the moment) to download files. Hopefully Mozilla release an alpha of their proposed metro Firefox for Windows 8 or something.

  • Snappy weekly summary
  • Increase in negative SUMO reports mentioned last week was due to over-counting. There might be some networking regressions, but no general slowdown.
    • To make SUMO reports more useful to developers we are looking to attach telemetry data: bug 732522.

[*]Nick is getting rid of main thread cache locks, bug 723577. Limited initial testing indicates this is a very big win.

[*]Brian?s prefetch nuking bug 692255 is moving along.

[*]Interactivity profiling is close to landing, bug 710935.

[*]Dietrich is looking to alter our startup sequence to show the main window sooner, bug 715402.

[*]Vlad tweaked chromehang to work on all windows versions and is working on the serverside component with Benjamin, bug 712109.

[*]Taras posted the plan to shut down Firefox efficiently. Rafael is working on this in bug 662444. Feedback appreciated.

[*]Jared has landed more of Avi?s smooth scrolling tweaks on the ux-branch, bug 198964.

[*]Dietrich and Andrew are looking into massive CC pauses after resume, bug 639262.

[*]Nathan landed persistent telemetry, bug 707320...but it?s not quite working yet, bug 732970.

[*]See Chris' great post on DOM Local Storage and the related discussion.
