bawz
"Firefox is already running, but is not responding..." (Y) Well done, Mozilla. it takes a few seconds for Firefox Process to be killed, completely when you close Firefox. restart firefox 5 seconds after you close Firefox an it'll be fine , the same can happen with IE or Chrome Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/989780-meet-the-browser-firefox-next/page/144/#findComment-596396985 Share on other sites

It stays open for many, many hours after I've closed Firefox. This was a rare issue before 29, but with 29, it is constantly occurring. Max Norris
it could well be a extension thats behaving badly Extension or wonky profile yea... it doesn't normally do that. And if it's staying for "hours" you need to stop waiting, if it doesn't close after a second or two, it never will. Kill the process and try an empty test profile. Guest
are you on Windows? what extensions do you have? it could well be a extension thats behaving badly No extensions, pure install. I only use Firefox whenever a website is refusing to work on IE11. Only thing I've changed from the default install is to enable the cleaning up of the history / cookies whenever FF closes. Guest
And that's what is causing it. So it is a bug? Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/989780-meet-the-browser-firefox-next/page/144/#findComment-596397177 Share on other sites
i_was_here
If it really is staying open for hours, yes it could be a bug. I don't think it should take Firefox THAT long to clear history and cookies. The_Decryptor Veteran Posted May 11, 2014 Veteran Share Posted May 11, 2014 So it is a bug? Yes and no. Yes because it shouldn't keep Firefox open that long, but also no because that's just how it works, it requires Firefox to clear out the files before fully exiting. Really it should only take a couple of seconds max, but having that option enabled will slow shutdown compared to having it disabled. Also try 29.0.1, the seer was disabled because clearing it's DB was taking longer than it should have. Guest
Updated to 29.0.1? Which disables seer to fix slow shutdown bug. I have, actually. Still happens. I'll play with it for a bit, try to uninstall, remove everything FF-related, then reinstall to see if that fixes the problem. Thank you all for the replies! allannyholm
Is there a way for Firefox on the Mac to, for instance, not maximize the images in the Desktop Showcase threads on this site? It goes against how Safari and Google Chrome handles these images - they appear maximised in Firefox but inline images are cut off on the right hand side. I looked in about:config for the automatic image resize setting and that was already set to true. Google'ing turned up nothing with regards to this other a post suggesting to turn off automatic resizing for images. Is this a question that has been asked before and problem solved? Any idea as to what I'm talking about? The_Decryptor Veteran Posted May 28, 2014 Veteran Share Posted May 28, 2014 In the last couple of days the issues stopping the Windows 64bit builds from compiling properly have been fixed, that was the main problem stopping Mozilla from running tests on them. Also, support for the Microsoft colour emoji spec landed (For any platform, works on OS X/Android/Linux, etc.) and how Firefox renders small-caps has been changed to allow for better OpenType support.
