NEW YORK, May 13 (UPI) -- A retired New York City transit worker has spent $140,000, which he says is his entire savings, on ads warning bus and subway riders the end is near.

Robert Fitzpatrick, who lives on Staten Island, told the New York Daily News he is a follower of Howard Camping. Camping, a California evangelist, has calculated based on his understanding of the Bible that the Second Coming is due May 21.

"I'm trying to warn people about what's coming," the 60-year-old Staten Island resident said. "People who have an understanding have an obligation to warn everyone."

Fitzpatrick's money has been used for 1,000 ads in subway cars as well as posters at bus shelters. The ads show a nighttime view of Jerusalem with a clock set at a few minutes to midnight, with the headline: "Global Earthquake! The Greatest Ever -- Judgment Day: May 21."

Fitzpatrick has no expectations of waking up May 22 to find life going on as usual. But he concedes not everyone agrees with him.

"My sister doesn't believe it," he said. "I've tried to tell her. But that's pretty much the story with most people."

well one thing is for sure

is that the Bible was written by random people over random times with random political motives.

well one thing is for sure

is that you can take any book and write your life around it. Doesn't make it right.

I don't know what you getting at. But as i was trying to say this is in the bible. It saids when the generation who sees Irasel become a nation which it did in 1948 it saids that generation will see the end times .It not giving a date nor is it saying everyone in that generation who has seen Irasel become a nation in 1948 will see it. All it saying is that generation who has seen Irasel become a nation will most likely see the end times. This is in the bible.

nj, you seem awfully bitter and resentful to something that doesn't even effect you. I think it's amusing.

Indoctrinated as a kid, bullied for speaking out, realising the truth behind a work of fiction. Bitter? No. Aware? Yes!

This is in the bible

And? In Harry Potter books a boy fights an evil called Voldemort... So?

Where is the reference?

Where is the reference?

Matthew 24:32-36

each bible version is different so it may not be like the one in the James version.

But it actually talking about the fig tree and some say the fig tree is Irasel. Also remember one other thing a generation can take up to 100 years. So that be like from 1948-2048

well one thing is for sure once Irasel has become a nation which it did in 1948 they said in the bible the generation that has seen Irasel become a nation will see the end times.

Where exactly, out of interest, because when the bible was written, they would have no idea about the countries and constituencies that exist today.

Edit: It says in the post above me...but you saying each bible version is different surely proves that it is a source that cannot be trusted. If people change it each time it is republished then I would imagine a lot of the original information is no longer there, or has been edited. :/

Just read the bible in Ancient Greek without the additions and interpretations of the church and that is not the exact story, many things were added by the Christian churches.

I see no where were it mentions the generation that see's Israel become a Nation will see the end of it.

It says the generation that sees the destruction of Judea (Israel i guess) will see the end of time.

Wouldn't multiple versions of the Bible directly misrepresent the whole "message" that it's trying to put across?

Fig tree is a symbol for Israel. http://www.believersweb.org/view.cfm?ID=1075

Matthew 24:

31 And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.

32 Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh:

33 So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors.

34 Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.
