Can't wait for standalone DayZ at end of the year. Loved ArmA II.

Did anyone pay for the Alpha?

I don't regret buying this despite the Alpha status - A great game, it has flaws but it's looking eminensly good for an alpha. The thing being the most frustrating for me is the insane AI, with pinpoint accuracy and knowledge of your whereabouts - Hopefully to be fixed with the beta or before. Other than that I've only experienced "smaller" glitches like going prone only to scoot across the floor.

The island, Stratis, is just stunning in the right conditions (Weather, time of day etc) really makes for some beautiful scenenic views once in a while, I've postponed missions to stand and enjoy the scenery.

Other than the island, the new stance system and the animations are wonderful! The stance system is working great, the options it provide are a great asset to the game!

I'll advice people to keep an eye out on Dslyecxi's youtube account as well as the official account. Dsylecxi is a man of vast knowledge when it comes to the ARMA universe and everyone could benefit from seeing his videos.Thumbs up to BI for hiring him to do the new Community Guide!

Does this have controller support? May grab it on Steam if it does.

It does - Though I would not recommend playing the game with it, it might be good/okayish for flying choppers (Planes once they're implented, beta stage perhaps?) but I can only imagine the infantry simulation will feel horrible along with the use of ground vehicles.

I am in love with the mouse and KB improvements coming from ArmA2, it truly feels great. I'd recommend mouse and KB for infantry and Joystick + Pedals for flying, though it is a matter of preference. Might just have to try using my 360 controller tonight. Will report back.

@PsYcHoKiLLa - The PhysX implentation is not complete yet. Why don't you go play some CoD instead, your mentality fits it much better.

The ragdoll animations are actually pretty good right now, they could use some work as from time to time the drop is still awkward, but some of the animations are great when they drop down after taking two in the chest.

The vehicle physics are also way off right now - As soon as you hit something you risk shooting into the sky for example. But this is all part of being in a alpha, and this is one of the more polished alphas I've been a part of.

I'm seriously planning to invest my gaming time onto Arma 3 and abandon Battlefield series, as I did abandon CoD series for Battlefied.

The only thing is, the graphics sometimes do look dated. It is photorealistic, but they could improve them a little more. Of course this is not going to stop my plan above. On the other hand, I'll be happy playing it easily at 60FPS VSynced. Would be great if they implement built-in FPS limiter in order to cap at 59 with VSync on, like I do on BF3.

Incidentally, I'm Greek and the landscape looks incredibly familiar to me -houses and all. It's gonna be great.

Please, can someone inform me what kind of AA is being used? I mean, is there MSAA support? I hope I won't see only crappy shader based AA, like FXAA and such.

P.S. I see there's PhysX support... Is there something alternative for AMD users? Is the performance vastly better on an Nvida card just because of this? Will I have to render this type of effects on my CPU? I hope this won't perplex the situation on my 7970.

@ PC EliTiST - There is MSAA support, along with both SMAA and FXAA.

This is for me one of the best looking games I've seen in ages, no crappy blue filters or any other color filter like there is in BF3 for example. Some things could use a little fine tuning, but overall for me it's gorgeous even with various settings on "High". Remember that this is a huge "open" area you're playing on, not some small claustrophobic map as in many other shooters.

As for the PhysX support I do believe it's being processed by the CPU.

O.K., nice... You know, now some guys have 2 and 3GBs of video memory. I'd like by this game to load and keep in memory as much graphics as it can, since it's vast, open world. I know the high draw distance is usually the culprit for extremely high CPU & GPU recources, but with good optimisations everything will be fine. Now the PhysX... damn. Can AMD or all users turn it off? If yes, what happens? No smoke effects and such? I hope my i5 2500 will keep up.

About AA... Well, a combination of MSAA + SMAA ( for trees etc ) usually gives very good results. For example, you know BF3 is made to support both AA methods simulateneously and 4x MSAA + FXAA on Low gives great results.

Anyway, as I said nothing will stop me. Also, I really wish this to be the first completely bug-free game ever made -after the release and 2-3 patches :)

As far as I know you are not able to turn off PhysX. But your I5-2500 should be alright, especially if it's OC'ed, mine is doing quite fine.

I was afraid I'd have trouble running this, but my i5-2500k and a single GTX670 OC is enough to keep it running great at 2560x1440, so I feel optimization is pretty well done even at this stage.

I got a alpha lite key from a guy on 4chan

I like it, the graphics are much improved as are the animations, radio talk and the inventory

However, Im finding it very very hard! It seems its the friendly AI who are killnig everyone, I cant hit anything! Even when fully zoomed in the enemys are TINY! If I try get closer then I just get mowed down from a guy with an AR 300 meters away!

I need a scope or something, also I hate how the recoil doesnt return to centre, so if you fire 1 shot, you are left aiming like 20 feet above thier heads. It makes auto fire totally pointless, its hard to hit someone with a single shot never mind a full clip

Well it is supposed to be a mil sim - So you do actually have to manage recoil and spread, this is not meant to be an FPS-replacement for Battlefield or Call Of Duty. Cover is essential, learning the new stance system is essential for cover and thus survival. Never leave yourself exposed, the AI will punish you harshly.

There's very little bulletdrop right now, you have to be at extreme ranges before having to compensate noticeably. Going fully automatic is only something you should do in CQB, where you still have to fire in bursts not to loose control of your weapon, and even in CQB going semi-automatic is still very much viable.

Yeah I guess i play a lot of FPs' like COD so maybe im comparing it too much to that.

Im pretty sure the aim returned to centre in arma 2 though, Ive played quite a few hours of that and didnt find hitting people quite so hard as I am now. It just seems like the characters are very small but it may just be the mission i played. (Ive only played the first one - infantry showcase)

I just kept wishing i had a scoped weapon lol

    • Same Internet Archive seemed to grab the new version https://web.archive.org/web/20...d/Setup_MakeMKV_v1.18.4.exe Here's the link to an additional file it periodically downloads https://web.archive.org/web/20260213092148/https://www.makemkv.com/sdf.bin I think update's keys, etc. To manually trigger this update, put the sdf.bin file in the root of where the program is installed. When you launch the program it will pick up the file and import it. Typically put it here: C:\Program Files (x86)\MakeMKV\sdf.bin
    • Windows 11 KB5094126, KB5093998 bugging out Office apps but it may not be Microsoft's fault by Sayan Sen Microsoft last week released Windows 11 KB5094126 and KB5093998 as the latest Patch Tuesday updates. Following that the company also published the accompanying dynamic updates under KB5094149, KB5095971, and KB5094156. Although the tech giant did not acknowledge any major problems, some users online reported various issues ranging from OneDrive and Dropbox access problems, BitLocker recovery lockouts, to blue screens and BSODs. You can read about them in this dedicated piece. While there is still no confirmation about those problems from Microsoft the company has admitted to another bug which we did not report on. The tech giant has confirmed it has received reports of an issue in which certain third-party applications may be unable to launch Microsoft Office apps or open Office documents after installing the Patch Tuesday. This affects both Windows 11 as well as Windows 10. The company says the problem impacts a subset of applications that rely on OLE (Object Linking and Embedding) automation to communicate with Microsoft Office programs. According to Microsoft, affected scenarios involve third-party software attempting to open Office applications or documents from within their own interface. In such cases, the Office program may fail to launch altogether, or the requested document may not open. Oddly there may not be any error message, which probably makes the issue difficult to diagnose. The bug affects several Office products, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and other apps in the Microsoft Office suite when they are launched through the affected software. These include tax and accounting software such as CCH Engagement and Workpaper Manager, dental practice management solutions like Dentrix and Softdent, as well as the popular research and reference management tool Zotero. Microsoft adds that other applications using similar Office integration methods could also experience the same problematic behavior. To understand the issue it is important to look at OLE, the Microsoft technology involved. OLE allows different applications to work together and share data, while its Automation feature lets one program control another. Thus this enables third-party software to launch Microsoft Office apps, open documents, and perform tasks automatically without requiring users to switch between programs. Because many accounting, healthcare, research, and business applications rely on OLE automation to interact with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other Office apps, any disruption can break those workflows. As a result, affected software may be unable to open Office documents or launch Office applications even though the programs themselves continue to work normally. At the moment the company has not provided a permanent fix though it has confirmed that engineers are actively working on a resolution, which will be delivered through a future Windows update. As such additional details will be shared once more information becomes available. In the meantime, Microsoft recommends a simple workaround for affected users whic is to open the Office application or document directly rather than launching it through the third-party program. For enterprise customers and organizations managing larger deployments, Microsoft says an additional mitigation is available. Admins experiencing the problem on their managed devices are advised to contact Microsoft Support for business to obtain and apply the workaround.
    • It saddens me when cars are such dull colours now. Mine is bright metallic blue and I absolutely adore it for standing out in contrast to that depressing backdrop of traffic.
