Dynabook introduces new Portégé laptops with Intel Tiger Lake

Intel finally introduced its Tiger Lake mobile processors today, with the new Xe graphics platform and significantly improved performance. Hot on the heels of the announcement, Dynabook has refreshed its Portégé lineup with a couple of new devices weighing under one kilogram, powered by Tiger Lake CPUs. Both can be configured with either an Intel Core i5 or i7, but both options coming with the higher-tier G7 graphics.

First, there's a convertible, the Portégé X30W-J, and that comes with a 13.3-inch Full HD touchscreen, with an IGZO panel from Sharp. For sound, there's Harman Kardon stereo speakers with support for Dolby Atmos. You can get it with up to 1TB of SSD storage and 32GB of DDR4 RAM, an there's a 53Wh battery to power the whole thing. All of that comes in a package that weighs less than 1kg, though Dynabook didn't specify the weight.

In terms of connectivity, there's Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.0, as well as a healthy supply of ports - two Thunderbolt 4 ports, one USB 3.2 Gen1 port, HDMI, a combo audio jack, and a microSD card slot. For security, there's a Windows Hello IR camera and fingerprint sensor, and both devices also meet the requirements for Microsoft's Secured-core PCs.

Portégé X30L-J

As for the traditional clamshell, the Portégé X30L-J, the story is similar, but you can get up to 48GB of RAM instead of 32GB. You also have a variety of display options, starting with a 1366x768 non-touch display, up to a 1080p display with touch. There's also an option for a privacy screen.

It has the same security features and the same ports as the convertible, but it adds an extra USB 3.2 Gen1 port and and Ethernet port for wired internet access. It also has the same size battery, but the laptop itself is actually lighter, starting at under 900 grams. Despite the weight, both devices have obtained MIL-STD-810G certification for durability.

The Portégé X30W-J and Portégé X30L-J will be available in the fourth quarter from Dynabook directly or the company's reseller network. Pricing information will be revealed later.
