Gears 5 releasing September 10, introduces three-player co-op

During Microsoft's Xbox E3 Briefing today, The Coalition gave Gears 5 a September 10 release date and also dumped a whole lot of information on the latest entry for the long-running series. See the latest trailer above.

As previously revealed, the campaign follows Kait this time and for the first time in a Gears campaign, three players will be able to join together and play in co-op. The campaign was also described as the biggest ever one developed in the franchise.

Horde and Versus are returning alongside a map builder for this entry, and the developer announced a new co-op mode named Escape during the show, which is described as an "aggressive, high-stakes co-op mode" that pits three players into essentially suicide missions.

Horde Mode will be unveiled at gamescom while Versus will be playable in a Gears 5 Tech Test that will kick off on July 17. Only those who pre-order the game or subscribe to Xbox Game Pass can join in on this test.

Gears 5 will be available on Xbox One, Windows 10, Steam as well as through the Xbox Game Pass. Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers, however, will be able to jump into the title four days earlier than everyone else.
