Here's what's new in the January Surface Pro 3 firmware update

Earlier today, Microsoft released a brand-new firmware update for the Surface Pro 3. Unsurprisingly, there was no changelog available at the time; however, the company seems to be improving its time to publish one, as it's now available.

Here's what's new:

Windows Update History Name Device Manager Name
Intel Corporation – Display – 20.19.15.4568

Intel(R) HD Graphics Family

  • 20.19.15.4568 improves Miracast and docked video performance.

Intel(R) Display Audio

  • 6.16.00.3197 improves Miracast and docked video performance.
Microsoft - System Firmware update

Surface Pro UEFI

  • 3.11.2050.0 improves system performance for the latest Windows versions.

The company also added a "value indicator" table, which presumably is to show the areas on which the update improves.

Value Indicator Score
Security +
Reliability +
Connectivity NA
Compatibility NA
Performance +
Battery Life NA

One thing to note about this update is that it's only for devices that are running Windows 10. If you're still using Windows 8.1 on your Surface Pro 3, you won't see anything that's new.

If you are on Windows 10, you can grab the update through Windows Update, as usual, by heading to Settings -> Update & security -> Windows Update.
