Earlier this week, we reported that Discord has been looking for a buyer and that Microsoft is in talks with the company for a potential acquisition.

Now, a new report from The Wall Street Journal claims that the Redmond giant is planning to close the deal by next month. According to WSJ, Microsoft is in exclusive talks with Discord and is planning to close the deal for over $10 Billion by next month.

Microsoft has been focusing on gaming lately as the company recently acquired ZeniMax Media, the parent company of Bethesda. Last year, the company even tried acquiring TikTok when the former President Donald Trump forced ByteDance to sell the US operations of the company to an American company.

If the deal is materialized, it will be Microsoft's largest acquisition since its purchase of LinkedIn back in 2016. The Redmond giant has made a series of purchases recently including the acquisition of GitHub and ZeniMax Media, for $7.5 Billion apiece.

Discord has seen massive growth lately with the company's valuation increasing to $7 Billion after the latest funding round in December. The company also generated over $130 Million in 2020, up from $45 Million in 2019. Along with a potential acquisition, Discord is also looking at an IPO as the company hired its first Chief Financial Officer, Tomasz Marcinkowski last week.
