Samsung confirmed today the existence of its latest 5G smartphone in the mid-range category, the Galaxy A42 5G. The device was first spotted earlier last month on benchmarking site, Geekbench, and on a Korean certification firm.
The phone sports a 6.6-inch Super AMOLED display and has a rear panel with four sections showing different colors (via SamMobile). However, the rest of its specs and features remain unknown at the moment as Samsung promises to reveal these details later this year.
Pricing details are not known as well, but the Galaxy A42 5G is expected to cost less than the Galaxy A51 5G, which hit retail stores in the U.S. last month for a base price of $499.99. Samsung also launched the Galaxy A71 5G in June for $599.99, so the latest handset will supposedly be the cheapest 5G phone from the South Korean tech giant.
While details about its specs are scanty for now, recent rumors suggested the phone would be powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 690 SoC with Adreno 619. The chipset could also be paired with 4GB of RAM and either 64GB or 128GB of storage. It will reportedly pack a 5,000mAh battery. Its quad-camera setup at the back takes a square shape instead of an L that's typical with Samsung's most recent smartphones. The rear camera is also rumored to feature a 48MP main sensor and a 5MP depth sensor.
