Waymo is collaborating with Geely to develop autonomous Zeekr vehicles for its fleet

The Geely Zeekr car for Waymo

Alphabet’s Waymo has announced a partnership with Geely to expand its fleet with the all-electric Zeekr vehicle. Waymo said it will integrate its autonomous Waymo Driver system into a version of the vehicle which it then plans to bring to supported U.S. cities as it electrifies the Waymo One ride-hailing fleet.

What’s great about the Zeekr is that it features a flat floor design, making the vehicle more accessible. It dispenses with the B pillar between the front and rear door, has a low step-in height, has plenty of head and legroom, and has fully adjustable seats. All these design factors make the vehicle much easier to get in and out of and it starts to feel more like a bus than a car.

Waymo One riders who hail a Zeekr will notice that Waymo has taken out the steering wheel and pedals, this will give passengers more space and makes the interior more pleasant. Instead, passengers will be able to focus on the screens inside the vehicle and accessing easy to reach phone chargers so their phone doesn’t run out of juice.

Waymo did not give a date when it expects customers to be able to hail a Zeekr vehicle. It just said it hopes to deploy them in the coming years.
