HP TouchPad fire sale 99$ CAD

Recommended Posts

So this should be taken with a grain of salt. I was not in this meeting. Everything I'm writing is 3rd party.

One of my former students works for BB. They were scheduled to have a TP training this am that got changed to a future of webOS meeting by HP.

The HP rep told BB employees that the TP hardware was holding back the performance of webOS. HP knew this and has been in talks with both HTC and Samsung. He mentioned Samsung an HTC being upset with Google and that they were both interested in making webOS phone and tablets. He noted HTC's contract with Beats Audio.

The HP rep said the 'fire sale' was not the original plan but that losses are being considered advertising expenses. "Once you use webOS we believe you won't want to use anything else." Estimated 2 million TP would sell in the 'fire sale.'

The HP rep was very optimistic. He left saying watch for an announcement within the next two weeks about a hardware partner. Possibly both HTC and Samsung.

The Best Buy employees all left 'excited' about webOS's future feeling like they were in the mist of something very big!

Just telling you what I've heard. Hope its true. I'm not trying to sell false hope here.

It should be noted that the meeting lasted 6 hours

Found this on pre-central... One can hope seeing as Samsung has a "big announcement" Sept 1st :p

Just an FYI. It seems some online stores still have it in stock for $399. When I inquired about the price drop they mentioned that they will probably receive the memo and hence the price drop on Monday. Might be a good idea to look at those online stores Monday morning.

It's probably too late, but for those in Australia, Harvey Norman is selling the 16gb for 98AUD and the 32gb for 148AUD, starting 2PM AEST today.

Our local store was mostly sold out due to preorders, but managed to get 6 of them (the last ones). They were "limit of 1 per customer", just FYI.

I really want a 32 Gb, if someone finds a good ass deal let me know. Im gonna be watching neowin all night on my phone. I can always sell my 16gb for how much I paid for it. I dont want to make money off of it.

*Look at ebay, its going for $300-400. People dont realize that this person posted a receipt that he bought it from bestbuy for 149.99 + tax and they are paying close to $400 for it....

HAX WOOT!

Thanks dude. I wish they updated the 32gb... but 16'll do my girlfriend just fine, I think.

I was originally not going to get a Touchpad at any price, but I wasn't expecting it to be this cheap (was thinking it would hit $350 at the lowest). At the moment tablets share the disadvantages of netbooks and smartphones without the advantages of either (pocketability or keyboard, except the Eee Pad Transformer, and it shows a lot of people think the same way that they're constantly sold out). At this price, if there's any left in stock or they re-appear due to some stock being sent back to HP, I'll give it a shot. Good way to test out the tablet form factor at a reasonable price.

Ah I missed out. Didn't even know they were going to reduce the price because I saw that they were going to return it to HP instead.

but there's rumours of a UK sale between 9am-10am, so I may cancel this.

I'm hoping it's true, but I wouldn't have the money for one until Wednesday, so if it does happen today, slim chance of me getting one. :(

    • Linux 7.2's first release candidate gets off to a good start by Paul Hill Credit: Larry Ewing It has been a few weeks since the release of Linux 7.1, and in that time, the Linux 7.2 merge window has been open, where developers can submit their features and patches ready for the upcoming release. That window is now shut, and the release candidate phase has begun so that new features can be tested and further fixes applied. According to the founder of Linux, Linus Torvalds, this week’s release candidate looks “reasonably normal”. Although we are super early in the release candidates, this is a good sign as it makes it more likely that an eighth release candidate will not be needed. Torvalds even mentioned that the update’s stats are only larger than they really are because there was another AMD header drop with a third of the patch just being AMD GPU register definitions, which aren’t big changes but make the code contributed look larger overall. In addition to this, he noted that just over half the patch is drivers, even when excluding the AMD register dump. The rest of the changes are spread out over architecture updates, tooling, documentation, and core kernel updates. In the next week, Torvalds says that he will be chilling out, taking the week “mostly off”. Despite this, he will be reading emails and keeping up with things, so if he is slow responding, now you know why. He said he is hoping for a calm week, but we will just have to see if the second release candidate is actually like that. We should expect seven or eight release candidates before Linux 7.2 is released, so expect it around the end of August. If you missed it a few weeks ago, be sure to check out our coverage of Linux 7.1's release.
