Is Windows 8 expected to be released this year? Well actually I can answer that myself because if it is now in beta I don't think they will keep it beta for the next 11 months, so I want to really ask if it is approx. known yet what quarter it will be released? I realise we can't guess MS's schedule but there must be some ideas.
I am unsure about the new design but towards the end of Beta testing when the public can participate I will give it a try, who knows maybe when using it it will be really nice and easy to use.

Why should there be a 32 bit version ?

100% agreed. How many years and years must we keep legacy formats on life support?

I like how people are complaining about the looks but aren't talking about the actual content of windows 8 which will have some new really awesome functions.

So much for tech forum ;)

x64 ? Will there be x86 (32 bit) version ?

i there would be 32-bit , because ARM arch is not 64bit yet

and they did 32-bit Developer preview build anyway?

I am not too convinced with mix of Metro and Aero interfaces thrown in. They don't gel together well. I hope this is not the final interface for RTM. I am UI whore. It seems that there will be a true unification of UI in Windows 9. This is just a stop gap like Vista :(

It has been hidden. It will appear when you place your mouse pointer where the orb used to be. No idea how they have adapted it for tablets though, as there is no mouse there.
They use the swipe from right charm menu.

Microsoft is following the every second OS to be trash rule.
Win98 was good,
winME sucked,
winxp great,
vista sucked,
windows 7 was great..

An that means windows 8 is going to suck.

Not quite! People are following the "I'm afraid of change, so I think I will destroy every other Windows version by word of mouth!" rule. ;)

Why does the "Networks" pane have to be the entire height of the screen on the side and cover the taskbar notification area icons and any thing under it. What was wrong with the compact Aero style network pane when on the desktop. This new pane should only have been shown on the Start Screen. Mixing Metro and Aero styles doesn't look good. All feedback about such little details are fallen on deaf ears. UI changes are for the worse.
The new panel allows you to see a lot more wireless network without having to scroll. And since your attention is focused on it when it's opened, it's not a problem if the notification icon are hiddens since you wouldn't want to consult them when this panel is open.

Mkay?

What's the point on breaking compatibility with older applications? Even now there are really few applications who are being compiled for x64.

Also, the "I've not used it and don't understand Metro - and so will badmouth it" rule!

Not quite! Maybe people don't want their OS dumbed down for the iPad crowd which is the only reason this Metro crap exists.

People WILL expect what they see in Windows 8 preview to be what they will see in final, this just looks so unfinished and barely thought. They've removed the start orb but not made that super bar any more useful...how about let me center it (properly) and organise it better. The UI inconsistencies SCREAM at me too. Looks awful. I'll try the BETA but this doesn't seem worth money to upgrade, the only reason I'd think about upgrading is being a front end web developer.
