Has anyone else seen the Computer Renaissance tv commercial airing in Tucson and maybe else where? They go through their ad then at the end add something like.. "looking for Windows 7 computers? We have them" or something real similar, I only saw it once and can't find it online.

Is the Windows 8 hate spilling out into the main stream? I know some here have voiced their displeasure (myself included... stupid fonts) but, I kind of always assumed it was just the power users that didn't like it. Us "tech forum" people seem to be quite vocal against Windows 8, although some might say we have to scream over the Windows 8 cheering section... you know who you are!

No, I am NOT trying to start ANOTHER Windows 8 bash thread, I'm just wondering about the perception that commercial seems to imply? Is Windows 8 getting Vista levels of hate? I never had a problem with Vista, not one, but Windows 7 was so much nice so I switched.

So, the question is - Is Windows 8 getting the same hate Vista did in the "average user" segment?

Yes it is. It's been in the main stream shortly after the first regular people got to use it.

The consumer hate for Windows 8 far exceeds that of Vista. I lived through the Vista release with consumers and while there was hate, Windows 8 hate is at a completely different level.

Now i'm not saying ALL consumers hate Windows 8, some actually like it, they just aren't the norm.

Yes it has reached mainstream but,

<opinion>

In the mainstream there isn't much of an option - I just do not see any other company being able to 100% fill the void of Microsoft for business computing.

</opinion>

I have a Windows 8 box at work to test our software and to be frank, since all the main tools are not supported by Metro; Outside of the main click out of Metro - I really do not see much of a difference.

I've never heard anything from my family or friends, good or bad, which was kinda why the Windows 7 bit at the end made me wonder.

The biggest option is to stay with Windows 7, and the only real difference on the desktop is it so f'ning ugly. That and my biggest gripe is the removal of most of the customization... the frickin' fonts man.

If anything, i'd say the hate is higher this time around. And that's partly Microsoft's fault. Why? Because Windows 7 is "that good".

So you think it's just that W7 is so good, that W8 is getting hated?

Dude, most of the people i know that was bad mouthing Vista when it came out never used it; the case with Win8 is different: most of the people i know love it and aren't bad mouthing the OS (one of my clients had deployed Win8 in ALL their machines).

How many is ALL?

DavidM, perhaps you could try emailing them for the commercial if you haven't already? Required information for the contact form includes: First name, Last name, E-Mail address, Phone number, and ZIP code.

In addition, they also have a phone number if you'd prefer to call them instead... 1888-COMPREN

Edit: Wow, that was dumb of me... I guess you aren't really looking for the commercial... I should have read the first post again. :|

Uggghhh,why do you assume its automatically windows 8 hate? could it not be clever advertising on their part to reel in those people who have seen windows 8 metro in stores but don't know there is a desktop and get scared they cant run some of their older programs?

and never believe a trend based on internet blogs and forums. people online like to sit and bitch all day long. consumers are ultimately who choose what is a success of not by voting with their wallets. If you've been on the internet for a long time,you'd think for the past 2 decades Linux and mac own the desktop computer market and nobody uses windows, or that consoles suck and everyone plays their games on PC, or that EA,Activision,etc... suck balls and no one buys their games.

I would love to know where you are sourcing this from because in my personal experience with people it is quite the opposite.

Hello,

Like ingramator, my experience has been that most consumers seem to like Windows 8, especially if they are buying a slate or a notebook with a touch-enabled screen.

Like I said, no one I know has said anything at all about Win8, I don't even know if anyone is using it. I guess I'm going to have to make some calls and do some research. :)

Don't worry, it happens to us all. ;)

Let's see - EA DOES suck, but people still buy their games. PC's are BETTER than consoles. Linux will NEVER own the desktop - too many distros, Mac will NEVER own the desktop - too expensive. So the forums are right about half the time??? Yes, I get what you are saying, and no I don't base what I believe on anything but personal use / experience or people who's opinion I trust.

The only real encounter I had with Win8 and not being wanted was at Staples when I actually heard a person say, "If I can't get it with Windows 7, I don't want it", but I couldn't hear anything else, so I don't know why or if that was part of a longer sentence. Damn, them speedy check out lines!!

It could have been clever advertising, but I've never know CompRen ever being "clever", not to say they weren't, who knows. Maybe it was the way it was said or something, but I got the impression. "Hate 8, don't worry we got 7" might/could have been my personal bias. ;)

    • Weekend PC Game Deals: Cyberpunk 2077, Split Fiction, Sonic Racing, and more by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe Weekend PC Game Deals is where the hottest gaming deals from all over the internet are gathered into one place every week for your consumption. So kick back, relax, and hold on to your wallets. The Epic Games store brought along two games from wildly different genres this week for PC gamers to claim. Robobeat is a rhythm-based action game that lets you become a bounty hunter that can wall run, slide, and bunny hop around his opponents. All you have to do is stick to the beat for the built-in or custom songs. Next, Citizen Sleeper is a sci-fi RPG adventure taking place in a ruined space station. It uses tabletop RPG-inspired elements like dice rolls and timers to change up how players approach its activities, factions, and storylines. The Citizen Sleeper and Robobeat giveaways end on June 25. On the same day, RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 and Voidwrought will become the next freebies. The bundle space expanded with two more collections from Humble this week too. The June 2unes bundle is up first, carrying plenty of rhythm games. This carries Kill the Music and Rhythm Witch in the $5 starting tier, followed by Trombone Champ, Spin Rhythm XD, and Thumper in the $7 tier. Paying at least $12 gets you the complete bundle, which adds on Kalpa: Cosmic Symphony, Everhood 2, NOISZ, and Sixtar Gate: StarTrail. The next bundle is for virtual reality fans. This carries Among Us 3D: VR and Zero Caliber VR for $10. The next tier brings in Tactical Assault VR, Ancient Dungeon, and Arizona Sunshine Remake for $15. VTOL VR, Zero Caliber 2 Remastered, Metro Awakening, and Thief VR land to finish things off for $18. Free Events It's a big week for free event fans, as Valve kicked off another one of its Next Fest events. This one carries thousands of gameplay slices from upcoming indie games The promotion is set to run until June 22. Standard free events are also ongoing this weekend.
