Engadget posts in depth preview of Windows Phone 7

If it isn't full Silverlight 4, it sure explains why some things are so wonky (i.e. don't work as supposed). Because projects in both VS2010 and Blend link against proper Silverlight 4.

Ya, I worded my post wrong, back at MiX it was said that the phone uses mostly SL3 with some SL4 things backported. I think this makes sense if you look at the timeframe of when they started work on WP7 they had SL3 to work with. Then when SL4 started up they picked what they could and brought those in etc. Now that SL4 is done and out the door I'm with you and others in thinking that it shouldn't take MS long to update WP7 to full SL4 and not this hybrid they have now.

I don't know how complex the move would be or how dependant (if at all) everything is between each other, those factors will let us know how long it'd take for the update.

I think that I heard it was supposed to be in the first major update. They've said they want everything to be running sl4 as soon as possible.

Actually, you're both kind of right. The version of Silverlight in WP7 is based on a mix of Silverlight 3 and 4. As Omen said, Microsoft are working to upgrade that to the full version of Silverlight 4.

Don't worry, Engadget were impressed. Petvas just likes to make it seem like everyone hates WP7.

How did you come to this conclusion? Probably you haven't read all my posts in this thread. My personal opinion is that WP7 is a promising platform but totally immature and that is why I am not going to get a WP7 device. When the OS matures I will reexamine my opinion.

Most reviewers liked WP7 but still found it incomplete (as I also did).. Nobody wants to hate us to hate the OS (apart from Infoworld)

No, it's not as good as the desktop versions of those browsers. But the mobile versions of those browsers aren't as good as their desktop counterparts. So I'd say that with the exception of HTML5, Internet Explorer is just as good as Webkit.

I LOL'd.

Great job trolling, as you are known for. Good to see you know how to selectively quote and miss the entire argument.

@ revanmj: See y_notm's post. That's like comparing Facebook's "touch" page to their "mobile" page -- they're not the same, thus it's not a comparison of ability, it's a comparison of separate pages on separate browsers.

Since it appears neowin is serving up a different version of the site between the two browsers, i'd say thats not a fair comparison.

Its not a different version it just doesnt support some of the CSS that other browsers do like rounded edges, the same happens with IE8 on this site also you lose a lot of CSS added graphical touches its not a whole new version just for IE.

    • So, recently, I saw on the news (yes, on this website) that Samsung is introducing features where it can provide education using AI-powered sets, and because of this, I got concerned about whether the AI gives out wrong info during education sessions, causing controversies in the process. What are your thoughts on this?
    • TCL's Bang & Olufsen soundbar is 40% off on Amazon by Ivan Jenic The TCL Design Series A65K is currently $299.99, down from $499.99. That's 40% off and $200 saved on a soundbar tuned by Bang & Olufsen, which is not a combination you'd normally expect at this price point (purchase link below). Bang & Olufsen doesn't typically show up in the sub-$500 category. The Danish audio brand is known for speakers that cost several times more, so having their acoustic tuning on a $300 soundbar is very appealing. TCL handles the hardware, B&O handles the sound engineering, and the result is what the company calls "accessible luxury." Still, accessible luxury isn’t full-fledged luxury, so don’t expect wonders. But this is a decent soundbar, nevertheless. The A65K is a true 3.1.2 channel system with nine physical drivers, including genuine up-firing height speakers for Dolby Atmos and DTS:X. Many soundbars at this price simulate overhead effects through virtual processing, rather than actual hardware. So, you’re getting the real deal. The design is unusually slim for a system with Atmos compatibility. The bar is just under 2 inches deep and should fit beneath most TV screens. The wireless subwoofer is also compact at roughly 14 x 14 x 5 inches. Total output is 460W, and you can connect to the soundbar via HDMI eARC, Bluetooth 5.3, or USB. There are also eight sound modes through the TCL Home app and an AI calibration capability. Although it’s worth mentioning that AI capabilities in most of these devices are inconsistent, to say the least, and that shouldn’t be the biggest selling point. Still, at $299.99, the A65K is a strong buy for anyone who wants a soundbar that sounds and looks noticeably better than what this price range usually offers. And the Bang & Olufsen branding surely sounds nice - pun intended. • And he paid Joe Rogan $30M for podcasts. Terrible company.
    • I sure hope the AI does not give out wrong info during education
