Cities: Skylines II's first expansion nears release as free bicycle update gets announced

Cities: Skylines II updates have slowed to a crawl in 2025, but publisher Paradox Interactive and developer Colossal Order continue to give reports on how the post-launch updates and expansion development are progressing. The latest report landed today, and it seems the delayed Bridges & Ports expansion may be getting a release soon.

The developer says that players can expect a release date for the expansion "very soon," because it has wrapped up its development.

"With the expansion in a good place, it’s time for the team at Paradox to do their magic," said Colossal Order. "Although we don’t have a release date yet (but very soon), you can expect two developer diaries that dive into everything Bridges & Ports has to offer. We’re excited for you to see what we’ve been working on and what you create once the expansion is available."

Originally slated to release in the second quarter of 2024, the Bridges & Ports paid expansion was delayed as the backlash against the game"s poor state grew larger. While it was supposed to then land in early 2025, it has continued to evade receiving a firm release date.

Bicycles and dedicated bicycle lanes are finally confirmed for the game as a part of an upcoming free update, too. While originally planned to be a part of the core experience at launch in 2023, animation issues had made the team remove bicycles altogether. This new transport option has new policies to encourage or restrict usage, bike parking locations, and dedicated lanes and paths attached to it.

At the same time, the studio is working on major fixes involving tourism and mail service. This should resolve problems like having a low number of tourists despite cities having high attractiveness scores and post-sorting facility issues, even when enough cargo facilities are present. The studio also said that "Old Town"-inspired assets and new service buildings are in development

However, release dates for the bicycle addition, new building assets, and the tourism and mail service bug fixes have not been announced yet either.

The company also made no mention of the indefinitely delayed console port, which was originally supposed to release in March of 2023, right alongside the PC version. At the same time, the long-promised Asset Editor for the modding community was also a missing topic of this developer diary.
