Cities: Skylines II's latest delay pushes back Bridges & Ports expansion again

Paradox Interactive and Colossal Order's latest city builder, Cities: Skylines II, has been going through a tough time with new content ever since its launch on PC in 2023. As the developer keeps shipping updates to fix up its performance and other issues, promised features like the console versions and the first expansion pack have continued to get hit with delays. This time, it's the Bridges & Ports expansion that has been pushed back again.

Colossal Order says that following internal reviews, it was found that the expansion needs more time in the oven before primetime, with polishing ongoing.

"After reviewing the content ourselves and sharing it with our early access group, we’ve received consistent feedback: the bridges are super exciting, and the port works well, but there are aspects of the expansion that are not as polished as they could be," says the Cities: Skylines development team in an update on the Paradox forums. "That left us with a difficult choice: delay the release once again to add more depth, or release it as-is, knowing players may feel it falls short."

The expansion is set to bring in tools to make ports inside player cities alongside new marine industries. Over 100 new assets will be included too, adding draw bridges, lighthouses, and more.

Originally slated to release in the second quarter of 2024, the Bridges & Ports paid expansion was delayed as the backlash against the game's poor state grew larger. While it was supposed to then land in early 2025, another delay pushed it to the second quarter of 2025. Now, the studio says that the earliest players can expect it is in the fourth quarter of 2025.

"We’re assessing feedback from our early access group and mapping out what we want to improve when the expansion launches," adds the company. "This is still a beautiful expansion, and we’re excited about what it will add to your city."

There is a piece of good news though, as a free update that was supposed to land alongside the expansion is still coming to all owners. Landing on June 11, this will carry two new bridges, three leisure piers, and three quays for players to use in their cities for both increased functionality and decoration purposes.
