Microsoft overhauls Xbox Game Pass with new tiers and a 50% price hike for Ultimate

Xbox Game Pass is a subscription gaming service that provides access to hundreds of games across Xbox consoles, Windows PCs, and Xbox cloud-enabled devices. Today, Microsoft announced three upgraded Game Pass plans with more benefits than before.

The new Xbox Game Pass plans are Essential, Premium, and Ultimate. Current Game Pass Core subscribers will automatically be moved to the new Essential plan, current Xbox Standard subscribers will be moved to the new Premium plan, and current Ultimate subscribers will remain on the Ultimate plan. The Essential plan will cost $9.99/month, Premium will cost $14.99/month, and Ultimate will cost $29.99/month (a 50% increase from the existing Ultimate plan).

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate benefits:

  • Over 75 day one releases each year. Upcoming highlights: Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, High on Life 2, Keeper, Ninja Gaiden 4, The Outer Worlds 2.
  • Library of 400+ games across console, PC, and cloud.
  • 45 new titles added today – including Blue Prince, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, and Hollow Knight: Silksong.
  • Includes EA Play benefits.
  • Fortnite Crew (from Nov 18) – ($11.99/month value)
    • Access to Fortnite Battle Pass.
    • 1,000 V-Bucks monthly.
  • Ubisoft+ Classics (~$15.98/month value) : Includes games like Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Breakpoint, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, and more.
  • Xbox Cloud Gaming with improved streaming quality up to 1440p
  • In-game benefits in some of the biggest games
  • Rewards Program:
    • Earn up to $100 per year (100k points) just by playing.
    • 4x points on game and add-on purchases.
    • 10% back in points on select Game Pass titles/add-ons.
    • Up to 20% off select Game Pass games.

Xbox Game Pass Premium benefits:

  • Library of 200+ games on console, PC, and supported devices.
  • 40+ new games available today, including Diablo IV and Hogwarts Legacy.
  • New Xbox-published titles added within a year of launch (excluding Call of Duty).
  • Unlimited cloud gaming, including select owned titles.
  • In-game benefits in some of the biggest games
  • Rewards with Xbox:
    • Earn up to $50 per year (50k points globally) by playing.
    • 2x points on game and add-on purchases.
    • 5% back in points on select Game Pass library titles and add-ons.

Xbox Game Pass Essential benefits:

  • Curated catalog of 50+ games on console and PC. Includes standout titles like Hades, Cities: Skylines – Remastered, Stardew Valley, and Warhammer 40,000: Darktide.
  • Unlimited cloud gaming included including select owned titles.
  • In-game benefits in some of the biggest games
  • Rewards with Xbox:
    • Earn up to $25 per year (25k points globally) just by playing.
    • Points on purchases of games and add-ons.
