Competition: Logo needed for hosting company

Question

Third time is a charm eh folks? I've got the funding, I've got the people, now I just need the logo!

HostFalcon.com, an internet service provider specializing in small business site hosting, has commissioned a contest to create a new and unique branding for their soon be opened business.

The winning logo will help set the tone for the layout, color and theme for the rest of the company web presence.

The contest will run for an undetermined length of time and participants from around the Internet community are encouraged to enter.

First prize is $40 AND 6 months of free hosting on a basic HostFalcon plan. Two runners up will receive 25% off any plan for three months.

Winners will be decided exclusively by the management of HostFalcon.

Requirements

The name of the company (HostFalcon) should be present on any logo design along with our slogan (Set your sites higher) if deemed feasible by the designer.

The branding elements should be on a white background and be easily applied to any white or light gray without recoloring. Any text used should be a sans-serif font. HostFalcon prefers the use of a simple and minimalist design.

Only Photoshop importable formats will be accepted.

Uses

The winning branding will be used on our website, in online and possible print advertisements, letter headers, company shirts, business cards, etc.

Exclusive rights must be provided to us by the author.

Good luck!

Additional Information

The following issues have come up through the thread.

- A cash prize has been added.

- You can submit as many variations or alternative designs as you wish.

- Please keep the negitive comments on other peoples work to yourself.

- Please do not ask for public feedback from me on your submission.

APRIL 3 UPDATE: The entry process is now closed. Unless you come up with something breathtaking we're going to use what we've taken so far and make a choice from there. We have narrowed the field down to about 5 logos that stand out from the rest as being the type of branding we'd be able to use and would help set us apart a bit from our competitors.

I have no timeline on getting a winner announced. Of course I'll let everyone know when that happens.

Thanks everyone for the great submissions, you've made it really hard for the judges to choose a winner.

Basing a whole site layout on a logo is not wise as the logo and can and in your case is being used in may different cases.

6months free hosting is not really a sufficient 'prize', 'pay' for a logo your gonna use in online and possible print advertisements, letter headers, company shirts, business cards, etc. Your gonna host business sites, surely you can spare some money for logo which will be your main symbol of recognizition.

OK, couldn't resist the urge to have a go at it although I don't like the prices a bit.

The logo is a modern design with eye-catching colors, "falcon" is not overemphasized and the symbolic wings are enough to convey to your customers what we are talking about along with the words "host falcon", other little details such as navigation symbols also emphasize the core idea of "web" and "web hosting" in a very non-obtrusive manner.

But still, no design comes out perfect (figuratively) in the first attempt, and without sorting out the "bugs" and aesthetic inconsistencies. So kindly give your opinion about it (unlike other folks who don't even point out stuff they don't like, and the effort goes wasted)

@Mohsin Naqi - Nice logo

@Everyone else - all your logos looks the same, just a clip art 'falcon' and a bit of text

@Marshalus - Im sure thats ^ all you will get unless you add a cash reward to the winner. Ive seen some great logos submitted in contests on here but you wont get any that stand out unless you add at least a bit of cash

Heh, I was hoping to maybe get by without a straight cash prize, but what the community wants the community gets. :)

The prizes have been changed to $40 + 6 months of free hosting (you can still do the 25% discount for a year if you want a higher up plan) and I've increased the runners up to 2.

Keep up the good work.

I asked for your opinion on my logo so that I can improve it :hmmm:

I will hold off on commenting on anyones particular designs right now. What ever the final design is which is picked will have to be modified a bit to fit our particular needs I'm sure.

Just keep throwing out ideas.

Also, please do not limit designs to the use of falcons. Other concepts are welcome.

    • Anyway to download these versions without being on the Experimental builds?
    • Nothing is stopping you from continuing with your testing cadence. If updates are released every 2 weeks instead of 4, and you test once every 4 weeks, the exact same amount of patches will still be available for you in those 4 weeks. For example: Before 4th week - patch 1, 2, 3, 4 After 2nd week - patch 1 and 2 4th week - patch 3 and 4 Still the same amount after 4.
    • Everyone else has said it. I'm gonna say it - you don't know what you're talking about. I do. I have two laptops. One work, one personal. I have access to two more laptops - both personal. At home I manually update my personal laptop when I see on Neowin that there is an update - I carry on and only apply the updates when I am ready. My work one only updates when my workplace decides to send it - I carry on and only apply the updates (when they actually arrive, which is usually days after the release) when I switch off the laptop at the end of the day as usual. The two other personal laptops only get updated when I get to it which is rarely - the people who own them carry on using them until I get to it and update them. All of the browsers on all laptops are configured to restore the tabs when launched. Google and Microsoft have changed from 6 weeks to 4, and it looks like it's going to move to 2. None of these changes affect how any of these browsers on the laptops are used. Not one jot. My advice to you is stop panicking whenever you see an update. Just carry on with what you're doing. This even benefits you in a way - from your comment you sound like you don't like the changes or the frivolous new features - great - then carry on as before!
