I ordered an Android phone.

Is it that hard for someone here to provide feedback? I'm sure out of the hundred thousands of members here someone has experience with Verizon family plans. Yes there is a reason, I like avoiding phone calls if I can and the reason is rather personal. Mostly everything I do is online unless it absolutely requires I pick up the phone or show up in person.

I wasn't sure, the price is kind of steep. That's over $200 if I want to add the three other members of my immediate family plus $50 for each additional phone so we might as well forget it.

Well I called Verizon to inquire about cancelling and returning the phone. I didn't want to return the phone, the thing is damn awesome. I did manage to cut down my bill though, I would have been paying $92.99/mo for their unlimited texts package. I didn't realize I signed up for unlimited texts when I applied so I managed to knock off about $20 off my bill by going with a lower package since I don't text that much. I also inquired about the price of a family plan and adding a second phone, my parents decided against it as it was too expensive even if we split the bill and we don't have the money for that right now.

I've rooted my phone but was wondering if there is any features or functionality that makes Cyanogen Mod worth installing? I'd rather not turn my phone into a brick since I'm not sure if I could get a replacement as I didn't pay for a protection plan, although it's worded in a way that makes it sound like you can get a replacement phone while under contract, just the protection plan is for replacing the phone when not in a contract. After being stuck with a crappy Tracfone for so long this is awesome, it's like having a PDA, media player, phone rolled into one and the features aren't short of being awesome.

You wont brick it as long as you install the recovery files. CyanogenMod, you can get some good roms that'll get rid of any crap and give you like, just stock android rom with extra features. My phone used to have Motoblur, now it doesn't. It runs so much faster.

Would it be possible to say entirely replace the stock sms app with Handcent? I noticed that the interface does indeed lag sometimes and sometimes there is a delayed response to touch. I would still want to keep voice recognition, wondering what apps I should remove..

Btw, what recovery files do I have to install?

I think you can make Handcent the default SMS application. I dont really know how. :p

yeah, you can download handcent and the next time you open up messaging, it will ask which program you want to open with and it will have a checkbox to make it the default messaging app
