FIxed. It's not even a freaking beta yet.

stop hiding behind the developer preview BS. Yes there are bugs, yes there are things that are changed and fixed. But the one thing people dislike TILES and METRO are still 100% there, though tweaked they are still more or less the same. Minimal, look drawn in paint, are a far cry from the awesome glass that 7 has. Sorry, but no amount of work to tiles or metro aside from removing them completely, I will still feel the exact same.

I'm not saying I'm a diehard fan of what I've seen so far, as it obviously has a very, very long way to go. But again it's not even a beta yet. And I'm not going to jump on the "I hate Windows 8" bandwagon when it's this early in the game.

well most of the features are set for the beta by now... this is when most feature lock in sets in... the beta is where people give feedback on what bugs are present on existing features. since feb is only 2 months away i doubt if much is going to be changed by then.

also,again it feels like we are using a fisher price UI when we use metro.... do you ride a fisher price tricycle to work? that is what it feels like.

and BTW I did actually sit down and try it... in vmware player 4.... (that was the reason i got it)

I got bored of it after 6 hours and deleted it.... it was a waste of the 18GB I allocated to it...

It wasn't directed at you, it is an overall. Whenever anyone says they don't like something the first response is that it is a dev preview. I never said I hated Windows 8, I said I hated Metro and Tiles which are central windows 8.

I think on surface you are right. But I think their is more to windows 8 then people realize. I am going withhold judgement until a beta is produced. I think different types of tablet/laptop/computers will be produced. In short the computer of tommorrow may look a lot different then the ones we see today.

I think that's about right. You know their's rumors that when Win 8 launches Asus will release what I'm calling an, "ultravertible," basically an ultrabook that converts into a tablet, of which will run Win 8, &, if I can get it for cheaper than I can get a Eee T91MT, I'm psyhced for it! & considering that ultrabooks & tablets seem to be the 2 types of computers everyone wants to make now, we might end up seeing lots more stuff like this in the Win 8 era! :D

EDIT: BTW, I believe that someone mentioned that, if Asus ends up making such a thing, the Dual UIs match it perfectly. Think about it, in ultrabook mode you would use the Legacy UI & in tablet mode the Metro UI! That might at least be able to quell SOME of the fears of the Metro UI...

I think its a bold step to include Metro in a standard desktop UI, even though im sure it will be able to be disabled its still ruffling alot of feathers. To be honest I think MS are probably taking this step because the future of computing, desktop included is going to be more mobile as well as making greater use of NUI technologies, such as touchscreen, kinect etc and we've already seen Metro shine on tablets, I can see it already lending itself to Kinect interfacing well and thats just for a start.

If you compare the razzle dazzle longhorn PDC build to Metro its certainly one end of the spectrum to the other.

Metro is a great idea. Idiots will bitch and whine, but the design language is unequivocally superior to anything that has come before. No useless fancy graphical effects, just the information you need, and nothing more. There are certainly some improvements to be made in terms of layout, which will come over time, but the idea of keeping everything flat, no gradients - just plain colours, and no chrome is the best thing to happen to GUIs since the taskbar in Windows 95. Hell, even Google knows this, Ice Cream Sandwich has taken strong direction from the Metro design language. Not quite as extreme, but it's definitely there, and it is so much more usable and looks so much better for it.

and YOU stop YOUR bitching, so you don't like the default look of Metro and the Tiles, I'm sure that once Windows 8 goes final there will be 3rd party themes for it just like any other version of windows. so stop complaining about something as minimal as the look, it's the functionality (which is quite impressive for that matter) that counts. looks can be changed

I agree some with brando's statements, however I mostly complain about the babied down interface with huge huge HUGE icons and text that is not very desktop friendly, but centered around tablets only.... that's what we bitch about...

yes, i have to agree that it would be nice to be able to change the size of the tiles

but hey, Windows is famous for its 3rd party customizations and tweaks, so if the functionality isn't added by Microsoft you're bound to find an app somewhere that'll do what you want :)

that's passable but a tad "top heavy"... I think the buttons on top are too distracting they are HUGE!!! if they were smaller it would work... I pay more attention to that then the content of the folders.

thanks for the feedback. They are basically bigger to be more touch friendly. And they take the same space as the ones we have today. I mean the folder size will show the same amount of files due to the shrunken top area. Which u call heavy :p.

it's not the look of tiles, it's how they are period. Metro looks like ****, so it will need to be themed the **** out of. I don't find tiles impressive or better in any way, so for me the functionality is just big, flat, icons that I can only have 10 on a screen with. It's not having a start menu, super bar, etc. I'm free to have opinions, and my opinion is the metro and tiles suck, and shouldn't be forced if you wish to use windows 8.

I am a fan of always upgrading to the latest and greatest. I upgraded to Vista the week it was released, and the same with 7. However, Windows 8 looks horrible IMO. I think the Metro UI will be the worst decision Microsoft has ever made. Yes I know it works fine for tablets......so release a tablet version of Windows! Most people are still on XP because they do not like the way Vista and 7 look, so what are the chances that those people will love metro? Why would they through away their hard Aero work for the default 1980's looking theme? Business will take one look at it and wont want to take the time to disable Metro (unless it is disabled in the Enterprise version).

What is the point of Metro? How are games supposed to work, it will need to be sent to the "classic" desktop right? What about Photoshop or After Effects? Why didnt they just keep the classic desktop?

Am I the only one that does not like Metro? What do you think business will say? Do you think Windows 8 will be a success?

They're going to offer the classic desktop alongside Metro if I remember correctly. Now quit moaning until we've seen the entire picture, your judging a book based on the first paragraph here.

on my droid i have no problems clicking on small links. i got tiny fingers though and dainty paws LOL....

what I don't get is they should have overlaid the live tiles on the desktop like rainmeter instead of a seperate area for them.

If you're on a desktop you'll have a bigger screen with higher resolution so the icons and text won't look nearly so big.

Also. These will be DPI dependant. So if you have a RETINA SCREEN these wont be so big. Same with smaller screens. Reducing DPI will reduce the size of these buttons as they do in the current UI. The size isnt what i wanted to show. Basically. I have made a UI that matches the Metro UI. And a searchbar to lauch all the apps needed in DESKTOP MODE. without needing to go to the METRO screen to break the flow of use.

Were you someone who really liked NeoPlanet when it was launched?

Actually, that is in Windows 8 Server's Server Manager.

It's (apparently) an alternative to either 2008 R2 or WHS 2011 - so far, Microsoft has not said.

Woot! As long as it's something official, I can hope that it makes it to Windows 8 consumer as well (or that there's a similar workstation conversion as in Server 2008 R2 to give access to Metro as well).

Also, check the various posts (including several of mine) - gaming on the WDP is, in most cases, no different (in some cases, it's actually improved), even compared to 7+SP1. (And that is with Metro as the only official UI, and unhacked/unpatched.)

The issues that have been complained about (Games for Windows Live and Punkbuster primarily) also affect 7+SP1
