Orange text-ads

I have an idea: The ads appear by default. If you are a member, you can disable the ads in the user control panel. The ads disappear if you have disabled the ads and are logged in. Visitors and members who want to support Neowin by clicking on ads will get them.

Here's another idea - use a browser that the ads don't work on if you're so rattled by them, then you'll never have to deal with them on any site that uses them.

I would suggest to just add to the host file.

Only reason i say that is because IE users have now been told that pop ups can be halted now in IE in SP2 and so, advertisers will find other ways to get to the customer. I have noticed a increase in this form of advertising already.

I dont think suggesting a new browser is the way to fix the problem, its like sweeping your hassles underneath the carpet.

An ad-free Neowin is impossible. Donations never amount to enough to pay for our server and backup solution so we have to use advertising because its a stable income we can build on to pay for this service. We choose advertising very carefully so as not to ruin the experience for the visitor. People who block 3 or 5 orange words and our 468x60 banner that help pay for Neowins existence need to consider how else we can stay online.

Just as a viable solution to the VibrantMedia IntelliTXT links since everyone here has complained about them so much with JavaScript issues and what not, has Neowin tried the new Clicksor text links, I just added them on my sites and they seem to work much better than the VibrantMedia IntelliTXT links. The load a heck of a lot faster and they are a lot more configurable, you can filter out certain keywords or phrases that you don't want it to underline so that you keep the links relevant to your content. Just an option. You can check out one of my sites running them here if you would like:
