I keep my eggs in a large chicken-shaped ceramic bowl on a window sill in the kitchen. :p

Ha ha - my mum and sister have one of those. Must be a British thing :p

Maybe in the USA it is too hot to NOT keep them in the fridge as I have noticed many people who don't keep them in the fridge here are British.

If your grocery store doesn't keep eggs in the refrigerated section, they're doing it wrong. And I would never go to that store again. Eggs, dairy, and meat should always be refrigerated.

You should tell that to all the major UK supermarkets then.

They are usually stored near the bread section.

Just done a quick poll at work, 3/4 of us keep ours at room temperature.

But then why do UK fridges have the egg holder things? Is that because the manufacturers have come over from the USA?

I keep 'em in the fridge. I read somewhere that the egg trays in the door are bad as well, you're supposed to keep 'em in their box at the back as every time you open the door they warm up.

Then again if you're storing them less than a week it doesn't matter if they are in or out.

In the fridge, too. But it is a popular fact that it's not very good to keep all your eggs in one basket (where nature itself has slipped up and what evolution has carelessly ignored since). So I keep some of them in the door and some on a random shelf, in carton boxes they are being sold.

Refridgerator. (The D belongs there)

Also, cold bread? I freeze bread when I buy a lot, but never refridgerate it.

We always put bread in refrigerator. It doesn't matter if it gets cold, because we toast it before use.

And yeah, I freeze it too when we buy a lot, but that's rare.

I keep them in my fridge. To me, keeping eggs in my fridge is like keeping meat in my freezer. Also, I've never seen a grocery store that kept eggs outside of a refrigerated area.

Come to England. Every store keeps eggs outside a refrigerated area...they're just on normal shelves.

Not in the fridge.

My reason for this is that I heard this makes the yoke too cold. You then run the risk of not heating it enough when cooking and an increased chance of salmonella.

Also I think the life of eggs isn't really extended by a lower temperature (unless you freeze them but then you can only use them for certain things). The main thing is that the shell is intact. Put a very tiny crack in an egg and once air gets in there then room vs fridge temp makes very little difference. It will go bad quite quick.

In my girlfriend...

...any way. I used to keep them in the fridge for years but over time i've moved to keeping them out of the fridge.

Fresh eggs put in the fridge will last longer but they will spend the entire time degrading in quality due to the cold air passing through the shells.

Eggs kept outside the fridge maintain a higher level of quality but will suddenly turn a bit earlier than refrigerated eggs. Eggs will also absorb fridge smells.

Your best bet is to keep them in a cool, dark place away from smells (so a semi-seal-able container with some allowance for airflow). This also allows them to be cooked properly helping help fight a rubbery finish and of course helping fight the dreaded salmonella.

    • (macOS) Screen zoom was broken for me in beta 1 and it's now working properly in beta 2. In terms of performance and UI design/consistency, these betas are already much better than Tahoe.
    • Less powerful than a PS5 at twice the price! I wonder if they use that for marketing? Totally DoA.
