Woman allegedly dons disguise to steal from neighbors

In an attempt to bamboozle her neighbors, police say a woman disguised herself as a man ? even donning a fake mustache ? as she repeatedly burglarized their home.

However, police said the 31-year-old Salt Lake City woman?s disguise didn?t fool anyone for long. Thursday, she was charged in 3rd District Court with two counts of burglary and one count of theft, all second-degree felonies.

Police said the victims first became suspicious when they noticed several thousand dollars in cash went missing from a box inside their home. When they checked the box a second time, they found that another $9,000 was missing.

The victims decided to set a trap for their burglar, leaving a small amount of money in the box and setting up security cameras, charging documents state.

The security footage captured a woman, who appeared to have tried to disguise herself as a man, using a key to get into the home, documents show. The woman had donned an over-sized men?s suit, a beanie cap and a fake mustache.

Police said the couple recognized their neighbor as being the burglar and reported that she was the only one to whom they had given a house key.

Salt Lake City police said they searched the neighbor?s house and found the woman?s disguise inside.
