  • The pound sign (#) is called an octothorpe. But no one calls it an octothorpe because it sounds silly compared to just calling it a pound or hash sign.

It would definitely be silly over here, where a pound sign is this: "?" :p

You can't lick your elbow.

Not true.

Potentially NSFW, due to one of the characters in the video... :shifty:

EDIT: Oh balls, monkey13 beat me to it by a couple of minutes!

Ok for a bit of fun and to educate ourselves a little. Heres the "Tell me something I dont know" thread, or the "Random Facts Thread". The aim is for people to take it in turns to post interesting and fun facts about the world we live in.

Please no stupid facts, such as "Your feet have 5 toes" or things like that. Also try to aviod facts about people or persons on Neowin. We want random real world factiods heres.

I shall start the ball rolling with this little fact about Bulldogs

"Bulldogs were original named and bred as a means of calming Bulls. They did this by running up to a bull and biting it on the gum/lips. This was done as in many large mammals, such as horses, cows and others. Doing so will hypnotize and calm the animal allowing for it to be checked or made compliant"

"The more you learn, the more you realize how little you know."

FACT: USA is still NOT America no matter what any source tries to say. Get over it.

You seem to be taking this a little too personally. To set your mind at ease:

America usually refers to either:
  • The Americas, a landmass comprising North America and South America
  • The United States, or United States of America, a country in North America

On topic fact:

In computing, a nibble is half an octet.

I never once said that America undoubtedly defines to United States of America. I quoted a piece of trivia and am being lambasted for it. America is an acceptable substitution for United States of America in every media outlet and person I have ever spoken - even internationally.

Another on topic trivia:

"Dreamt" and "undreamt" are the only English words that end in the letters "mt."

Rammstein also says Amerika, to represent the USA, and they are foreign. Just sayin'. :p

Americans (sorry, citizens of the United States of America) on the average eat 18 acres of pizza every day.

Any month that has a Friday the 13th also has a Wednesday the 25th.

Eric Clapton did not play the very famous first riff on the song "Layla". That was Duane Allman. Clapton comes in later.

Jim Gordon, drummer of Derek and the Dominos ("Layla"), killed his mother with a claw hammer.
