If you somehow managed to acquire every single ounce of gold present in our earth, and melted it all down, you'd be able to fit the resulting mass into just a few 18-wheeler trailers.

Well I know that is rubbish. Look at how many garbage trucks it took Simon Gruber to get all that gold out of the federal reserve.

Up to this point, the amount of gold that we have mined can be melted into a 20 meter cube.

This link is possibly a bit more accurate, taking some ancient civilizations into account, and puts the number at 25 meters cubed.

As for your point on the garbage trucks, gold bars are rarely, if ever, pure gold. They are mixed with other metals to increase their durability, just like with jewlery. This also increases the appearance of their volume, but if you were to remove all the other metals, volume would go way down. That's what I thought, anyways

This fact changed my life. I stopped 'arguing' with people.

If you are talking with someone, and you know that he said something wrong. Or when you are having an argument with someone about some issue, and you are right, and trying to prove him that your view is right.

When this happens, a chemical is released at that moment, in that person's brain, which is the same chemical released when you are in a big trouble. And it has a 'fight or flight' reaction!

This chemical also reduces the person's ability to think clearly, and weakens his short-term memory.

Even if you start giving him points to prove yourself. It would seem as if those points aren't even registering in his brain.

This is a reflex action, on which he has no control over. The brain is trying to protect it's beliefs, no matter how trivial they are.

So next time you are in an argument, just remember this.

That's why there is a centuries old saying, that "no one can win an argument".

(Several typos may be present. From my iPod.)

RemixedCat's fun fact of the day 135-020712:

there is at least some kind of freakeiness associated with all of the major forum software systems!

Vbulletin:Jelsoft was the makers of Vbulletin forum software up till version 3.6. Internet Brands of California,USA purchased Jelsoft. They wanted to make a lot of changes to the forum system that the Jelsoft employees did not like. Those employees went on to found XenForo. VB4.x has a very divided userbase.

Invision Power Services (IP.Board):powers this forum. very divided userbase. Matthew Mecham and Charles Warner established Invision Power Services when they resigned from Jarvis Entertainment Group (JEG), a company (now Westlin Corporation) that acquired Mecham's forum software IkonBoard.[2] Mecham promised his software would remain as freeware before and after the acquisition by JEG.The company proposed commercializing his software rather than maintaining its freeware status, and placed Mecham and Warner under pressure with the workload of IkonBoard that lead to their resignation. 85 percent of supporters from IkonBoard followed them to their new company and Ibforums (now Invision Power Board) came to be.

XenForo:See Vbulletin above, very divided userbase as well.

PHP-Fusion:the founder died last year and people were very saddened.

PHPBB:Struggles with security issues, most popular free forum system

Not entirely true. If there wasn't a statue or picture, there was a verbal reference to Superman.

The weight of this 20m cube of gold would be 165,000 tonnes (from your own link)

The gross weight limit for an 18 wheeler (or HGV here) is somewhere in the region of 30-40 tonnes. We will say 50 just to be generous. Remembering that this is gross weight so we would still need to deduct the weight of the vehicle to get the maximum load weight. However I am feeling extra generous so we will say each vehicle can carry 50 tonnes.

At 50 tonnes per load you would need 3300 vehicles to carry all the gold ever mined.

More than "a few 18 wheel trailers".

Yippee-ki-yay, mother********.

Achenes (pronounced "a-keen") are the tiny yellow seeds in a strawberry's skin! Actually, botanically speaking, the achenes ARE the fruit; the strawberry is simply the receptacle into which the fruits are embedded.

Cocoa is actually a misspelling due to when the Spanish invaded the Aztecs (who had a hold of the Cocoa bean and even used them for currency) the Spanish couldn't spell too well and changed what the Aztecs had originally called the 'Cocao' bean to the 'Cocoa' bean. When people say 'Can I have a cup of cocoa.' I often correct them and say 'You mean to say 'Can I have a cup of cocao'' because I'm a douche like that. (Y)

Actually we all know that you "can", so when someone asks, the correct English would be; "May I have a cup of cacao." The person, if they really had manners, would add a please onto the end of that!

Why in God's name are you mixing up volume and weight? Gold is extremely dense. All you've proven is that you would reach the maximum weight of a trailer before you filled it up completely...

Even if I'm wrong, your logic is completely ****ed.

Oh. Ok you are saying if the weight of a cube of gold with a 20m side didn't exist then you could fit it into a few trailers. Ignoring the weight consideration. I'll be generous and ignore the fact that you said the "resulting mass" of melting it all down then. (Although I am curious what you think mass is if it has nothing to do with weight)

HGV Length = 25m (That is a great big 2 trailer one). HGV height = 4.5m. HGV width = 2.75m

Giving a volume per vehicle of 309.375m3. I'll be generous again and round this up to 320m3

A cube of gold with one side of 20m has a volume 8000m3 (Can you see where this is going yet?)

At 320m3 per vehicle it would take 25 to carry the gold. Still a bit more that what I would call a few.

Although I would have thought that the fact that each of these vehicles will be carrying 6600 tonnes may be worth considering, After all that is one of these (deadweight)

Damn me and my ***ked up logic.

I can't verify the source on these, but they are curious at least to read if true...

40,000 Americans are injured by toilets each year.

CBS' "60 Minutes" is the only TV show without a theme song/music.

If one spells out numbers, they would have to count to One Thousand before coming across the letter "A".

Q is the only letter in the alphabet that does not appear in the name of any of the United States!

I've heard this one before with differing figures. I always love the way it's worded. Makes me imagine wild toilets roaming the US attacking people.

my toilet is gonna attack you in your sleep just watch.

Hi my Name is Mike now you know me so that is somthing you did not know.

Also you dont know this but everyone on this forum does not have Jobs Neowin has bind us all to a contractual agreement that we must be on Neowin 24/7 he he

Also the Earth is not round or Flat but it is a Triangle with ciucles on the Edges

One more Thing all of the above is just BS besides the first part so if you believed in it i got you believing in BS that you did not know

B.S.

People need to stop drink-writing (or whatever the equivalent of drink-driving is in relation to the forums) around here...

  • More than 2,500 left handed people a year are killed from using products made for right handed people.
  • New York's Central Park is nearly twice the size of the entire country of Monaco.

The Earth isn't actually round; it is an oblate spheroid.

"round" = "Shaped like or approximately like a circle or cylinder"

Obviously "round" is referring to a sphere and not a circle in this case, and an oblate spheroid is approximately shaped like a sphere.

    • O&O ShutUp10 3.1.1104 by Razvan Serea O&O ShutUp10 offers a simple yet effective way to take control of your Windows privacy. It provides access to almost 50 privacy-related tweaks, most of them hidden or not easily accessible to the average computer users. Using a very simple interface, you decide how Windows 10/11 should respect your privacy by deciding which unwanted functions should be deactivated. Using ShutUp10 you can easily disable Windows Defender, turn off telemetry, disable peer-to-peer updates, turn off Wi-Fi Sense, disable automatic Windows updates, turn off and reset Cortana and more. ShutUp10 allows you to create a System Restore point before you apply any changes, so that you can revert your system at any time if you run into problems. O&O ShutUp10 is entirely free and does not have to be installed – it can be simply run directly and immediately on your PC. And it will not install or download retrospectively unwanted or unnecessary software, like so many other programs do these days! O&O ShutUp10 Free and Premium The latest version brings O&O ShutUp10 Premium, expanding the app’s long-standing privacy controls with automatic enforcement of user-defined settings. Instead of manually rechecking options after every Windows update, users can set their preferred privacy configuration once—or apply recommended settings in a single click—and the tool continuously monitors them in the background. If Windows 10 or 11 re-enables disabled features or introduces new data collection paths, Premium restores the chosen settings automatically without user intervention. The free version remains available and fully functional for manual adjustments, offering the same core privacy controls for Windows. However, the Premium tier is aimed at users who want long-term, hands-off protection, adding automatic reapplication after updates, ongoing monitoring, and optional notifications to ensure privacy settings remain consistent over time. • In the past few days I have noticed two odd moderation activities. First, when I posted the term 'White Nationist Christian' it was asterisk's out. When I changed it to **** it was allowed! Second, in the Politics is a ###business thread I was allowed to post that the GOP is a party of p e d ophiles but I was censored  when I posted the GOP are a party of p e d ophile protectors. Wtf Neowin. Please explain.
