Recording The Police is a Dangerous but Necessary Thing to Do

Recommended Posts

Actually, many jobs record their workers while working..... You ever walk into a DMV or other type of government building? All their employees are recorded. I hope you aren't trolling me after this question... seriously...

Doesn't excuse them. It's like saying I can shoot someone and not be held liable, because I didn't know how a gun worked... I would still be held for at least man slaughter. Cops are prepared to handle most situations when they get out of the academy. If you don't know what their training persist of, you might want to educate yourself, instead of just guessing....

Umm, nationally born citizens don't take test... Really, I think you are trolling at this point...

Judging from your responces... you fall in line with what makes you weep....

You don't understand. I have debated with you in the past and I just love how you fall backwards in your argument with "trolling" as your defense. I am not trolling. I never said that citizenship through being born requires that you take a test, but the point that the United States requires those who wish to become citizens to agree to abide by the law. The others who were granted citizenship by being born in the US are given a privilege of such, and therefore should be proud of their Country and wish to abide by the laws.

Also, yes; the other Government buildings are recorded, however in this argument-able stance, can you really compare all that goes on with those buildings and with a police officers job.

Another thing, there are ways to make sure you know how to use a gun before you can legally purchase one, except for the Gun-Show loop-hole. That is one way and I will grant you that. Oh, and I know someone rather close to me who has gone through the training and he will even say there is no way to prepare yourself for any thing you are going out to do for your first time.

Lastly, don't you dare judge me as a lazy citizen.

The video is too sensationalist for my tastes. "There is a Rodney King every day".

Do police officers get off on a power trip? I'd say many of them do. The problem is it becomes hard to see what's creative storytelling and what is actual police brutality. There are a number of instances in that video itself which show people provoking the police and going at them.

This is how I feel about it too. I've seen a lot of people provoking the police.

you are judged by how you respond and act. by flip flopping on your questions, saying one thing then another, you can't even be taken seriously in this topic anymore. I provided answers that show you how people are recorded during their job and don't take oaths to the laws, and you instead say, those don't matter and I didn't say this, I said this, blahblahblah. So ya, I'll respond to those that will be able to hold a discussion with more thought than what you seem to be putting into this.

Provoking officers doesn't give them the right to shoot or beat you..... That's like saying that if someone is rude to the waiter, the waiter has the right to rub their dick on your steak.... 2 wrongs do not make a right.

It angers me to see how some police do their job, they are meant to serve and protect people in the public; instead they are terrorising them. It's a disgrace, power has got too out of hand, and you can see just why police don't want you to record them doing their jobs. Hopefully people will start standing up to the police, so we can cast out this behavior once and for all.

I have not wavered on a single thing yet. I am sorry that you could not back your point and therefore had to retreat, however do not try to cover your fault by trying to put me down. That just reflects your character.

As far as I know, no one in this thread has any of the backstory to any of the events shown in the video, so this is why I say what it is I say.

The actions that they take in these videos may be viewed as over done, however I would like for you to think about what type of situation they are in. They are facing people they don't know in possibly hostile situations. Now, again because I don't know the backstory to the situations, they more than likely are not just arresting them because they feel like it, they are detaining them because they have broken a law or are suspected of doing such. They have every right, and this is for their own safety(and yours mind you), to take the proper action to get said person in the proper detaining area. Although you deem this as improper, I would like to ask what you would do if you were in a situation where you were facing an unknown, possibly hostile person?

I would just like to again emphasize that we should treat our police with more respect than we do for they are doing their job, which is to protect us. If they ask for some privacy, then it is privacy that they should receive.

You got to be kidding right??????

I believe a cop can do whatever they need to arrest somebody, but what we saw in these videos was the cops abusing their power and keep hurting people after there was no more threat to anybody.

There is no need to kick somebody 10 - 15 times after they are on the floor

And if the cops aren't doing anything wrong why would they have an issue with you videoing whatever they do???

Here's a news story about a cop being fired, after a video of him using unreasonable force was posted on YouTube. This is great to see, and more police officers should lose their jobs for using unreasonable force:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UHSWCMqYQc4

Whenever there's an article about cops, what's it usually about? How often do you read an entire article all about one heroic cop who saved someone's life? Not very, it doesn't make good news. What about cops abusing their power and committing crimes? Oh, yup, that's worthy of front page right there!

Somehow, I think the media's seeming portrayal, and actual statistics would be quite different.

I am going to throw out a situation:

You are at a party. A larger man comes up to you and wants to pick on you. You two end up fighting. In this situation you are able to get him on the ground. When you get up, 1: adrenaline is flowing through you and you continue to hit him or 2. you continue to hit him because you are trying to prevent him from getting back up. That is what the officer is trying to do. I will agree that there are some acts that are a-bit overdone, however police officers are human's after all. Their ID is causing them to try to put out a Alpha-Male presence.

Also, I love how you all are, and yes they are living human beings (I get that), felling sad for accused criminals.

Depends on how the officer is provoked. I'm non-violent and find pro-gun people to be crazy but I wouldn't find anything wrong with the police shooting someone that just pulled a gun on them.

Calling a police officer a douche shouldn't warrant a broken arm but I don't think there's anything that warrants the initial behavior to begin with.

You are nuts!

First of all the situation you describe is totally different.

Two people fighting, yeah I would make sure he's not getting up to hurt me again.

What we saw in the video though is people who are already arrested being beaten by cops just for the fun of it. There was no threat anymore.

Also a cop should uphold the law, not break it. And I'm pretty sure that what we saw in these videos was abuse.

What about the guy sitting handcuffed in the police car. did he need a beating???

I don't think so, if you want to be a cop you should stand above that. Doesn't matter what name calling they use.

*facepalm*

I believe most cops are good, but , with my only arrest ending in a settlement and all charges dropped with the police department after his lies hit the paper, I gotta say, power can do allot to a man. With that said, we had a patient loose it and had to have officers come in, they managed to calm him down and arrest him and didn't even shoot him (mental issues they didn't know either) when he attempted to grab the officers gun. Record Record Record that is the only answer.

I think you forget that a cop is just a human being fighting for survival. I am not saying it is completely justified in the situation with the cop in the car, however the situations are not different. Just for a second, think in their mindset.

I don't see any problems. fool around against them and you get it. Don't do what they say? you get it. They have to put up with people who disobey them, and who assault them on a daily basis and they are getting ****ed off at it.

Do what you are told and this wouldn't have to happen. simple.

Some of the clips clearly do not belong in this video. The first one is ok by me (and thats without even know the back story). The guy comes out of the store, looks like he is carrying something (could be a weapon) - he is given orders, instead he turns towards the cop - easy solution - shoot the moron. The one with the guys sitting along the wall (looks almost like a parking garage or something) - this moron decides he is going to stand up - easy solution - beat his @$$. There are def some clips in there that show how cops can abuse their power but I hate this type of "journalism??" where stuff is just thrown together to make cops look like power hungry people who just beat down criminals as a first resort. Too many of these clips dont show the whole situation from start to finish so im just going to there are bad seeds in every profession - anyone who abuses their power should be fired and possible brought up on charges if there are any.

Cops are not just people. They have gone through extensive training to deal with all sorts of situations.

And like I stated before, a cop can do whatever he wants to arrest somebody, he needs to protect the people around him and himself.

But a lot of what we saw in the video was cops just beating the crap out of people that were no threat to anybody anymore.

To me that's abuse of power

Fair enough. I can not argue your opinion on what you saw. However I would like to still say that yes, they do go through "extensive training" but that is merely theoretical knowledge. They can't prepare for something until they have the wisdom of the said event.

Are you even watching the same video? Regardless of back story a clip in that video shows that when the police failed to pin him to the fence with their vehicle they proceeded to beat the ever loving **** of a guy who was laying on the ground with his hands on his head, they continously kick him in the head and the groin well after he could even possibly be considered a threat, another clip shows a police officer taking a baton to some guys shins continously as the guy was screaming in agony, you absolutely fascinate me to think that you could justify behaviour like this.

You are clearly delusional, while there are certain clips the first one being a good example that showcases a fool bringing it upon himself but the vast majority of that video is insane, how anyone could look at that and say they have no problem with what is going on and things are exactly how they should be, really ought to try and understand the fundemental human rights that your own constitution is there to protect but even based on a very basic common sense, interactions such as these should be avoided at all cost not be the regular norm. Police in a reasonable society would look to make friends out of those they serve not enemies.

    • Linux 7.2's first release candidate gets off to a good start by Paul Hill Credit: Larry Ewing It has been a few weeks since the release of Linux 7.1, and in that time, the Linux 7.2 merge window has been open, where developers can submit their features and patches ready for the upcoming release. That window is now shut, and the release candidate phase has begun so that new features can be tested and further fixes applied. According to the founder of Linux, Linus Torvalds, this week’s release candidate looks “reasonably normal”. Although we are super early in the release candidates, this is a good sign as it makes it more likely that an eighth release candidate will not be needed. Torvalds even mentioned that the update’s stats are only larger than they really are because there was another AMD header drop with a third of the patch just being AMD GPU register definitions, which aren’t big changes but make the code contributed look larger overall. In addition to this, he noted that just over half the patch is drivers, even when excluding the AMD register dump. The rest of the changes are spread out over architecture updates, tooling, documentation, and core kernel updates. In the next week, Torvalds says that he will be chilling out, taking the week “mostly off”. Despite this, he will be reading emails and keeping up with things, so if he is slow responding, now you know why. He said he is hoping for a calm week, but we will just have to see if the second release candidate is actually like that. We should expect seven or eight release candidates before Linux 7.2 is released, so expect it around the end of August. If you missed it a few weeks ago, be sure to check out our coverage of Linux 7.1's release.
