Mission Control animations stutter with a handful of apps open. I had the same issue with OS X Lion until the v10.7.1 or .2 update. Now I'm back at square one again. Nice.

Try to put the dock to the side of the screen and see if it stutter then. There are people that says the new 3d dock is the reason of the stutter.

That's insane. Mission Control starts noticeably lagging on my 2010 27-inch iMac (BTO better graphics card) with the Dock at the bottom and 7 Safari windows open. The lag is completely gone when putting the Dock on the side. Apple really needs to address this. On OS X Snow Leopard and OS X Lion I had no issues even though both have Dock reflections too.

Do you have any stacks in the dock? If so try switching them to display as folders, some users have reported that that improved performance.

You can also get the 'side dock' effect without putting the dock on the side of the screen, you just have to change a setting via the terminal:

defaults write com.apple.dock no-glass -boolean YES
then
killall Dock
To go back to the 3D dock do the same thing but change YES to NO.

I don't see any lag on a 2011 core i7 iMac with stutter when using the Mission Control and I opened like 20 tabs on Safari and a whole bunch of other applications open too hmm. What spec is your 2010 iMac?

I'm assuming it's because the ML dock has a Gaussian blur effect and the old dock didn't. It probably just needs some optimization.

I think they won't optimize it (if it's an optimizing problem)... you know... it's Apple... they want you to buy a newer mac. :/

Normally I'd agree with you, but even the latest and greatest Retina MacBook Pro can stutter on it with enough windows open. :p

Me neither. And I have a 2009 iMac. Not that I use Mission Control a lot though. But I have to admit it?s a killer feature, I don?t know why I?m still ALT+Tabbing all the time

The Dock should be using CoreImage for that, which does it all on the GPU (Same as the blur behind menus/panes), that shouldn't be the cause of any performance slowdowns.

I'm sure it's using the GPU for rendering, but that doesn't make it impervious to animation stuttering. :/

Thank You Sir, might come in handy with a low spec macbook.

Even if you have a thousand tabs open in one Safari window, it's still only one Safari window Mission Control has to render. That won't really affect performance unless Safari takes down the entire OS.

I had the same issue with OS X Lion at first. Apple fixed it later on and everything was buttery smooth again. Undoubtedly they screwed something up again.

Any noticeable improvements v10.8.3 brings in general?

Graphic drivers have been improving each build, less stutter in full screen apps and switching windows, Safari was crash happy in the previous build so i'll have to test that out, but other than that Mountain Lion has been very stable for me.

I haven't had a single stability issue with OS X Mountain Lion on my former 2010 iMac. But then again I didn't have any with OS X Lion or Snow Leopard either. Hopefully this trend continues when I receive my new 27-inch iMac.

Same here, it's the reason why i switched 3 years ago it's very fast and stable + eye candy. :)

I recently got my hackintosh setup with my copies of Lion/Mountain I bought when I had my MBP and I have to say even on my i5 2500K OC'd to 4.5GHz, GTX 570, etc. has some stuttering even while I have full GPU rendering and everything enabled correctly thanks to tonymacx work and my compatible Z68X-UD4-B3 mobo.

Why we can't change the dock on 10.8 anymore?? Anyway to change the logicboard inside the macbook pro? alienware can easily change the graphic card to 670MX

why the luxury macbook pro doesn't have this awesome option?? Apple want to eat more money?? I hate the fact that it can't change...good product but poor performance in few years time. YUCK!

^ If you have one of the newer machines with the thunderbolt port, in near future you may very well be able to add gfx cards via the thunderbolt port. So fret not :)

    • Alien Isolation 2 will bring a new protagonist and setting, watch the reveal trailer here by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe Only a few weeks ago, Sega and Creative Assembly dropped a teaser for a new Alien Isolation. Today at Summer Game Fest, Alien: Isolation 2 was officially announced with a new trailer while also confirming a whole lot of information about the setting of this survival horror project. Check out the reveal trailer above. Leaving behind the Sevastopol space station, the sequel will take players to a remote colony world. With a Xenomorph (or more) on the loose, players will be navigating both the surface of the weather-ravaged planet as well as "the claustrophobic confines of the Weyland-Yutani outpost of Kurosaki Station." Interestingly, Creative Assembly is leaving behind Amanda Ripley, the daughter of Alien's Ellen Ripley, as the protagonist too. While it hasn't confirmed a name yet, players will be taking the role of a new character for this new adventure. The setting is also being described as a new hunting ground for the Alien. This will have players improvising and developing new tools to aid in their survival and escape, all to avoid "cinema’s deadliest killer." "It has been over a decade since we created the original Alien: Isolation and I am so excited to show everyone the first glimpse of the sequel," says Al Hope, Creative Director at Creative Assembly. "Our dedicated Survival team at Creative Assembly has been working hard to create a new, evolved Isolation experience continuing the legacy of the Alien franchise, making the eponymous killer smarter, the environment harsher and the chance of survival slimmer." Promising the same deadly tension from the original from over a decade ago, Alien: Isolation 2 is in development for PC, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PlayStation 5. A release date has not been announced yet.

    • Like the article stated, it's written completely from scratch, unlike the umpteen Chromium clones. It got its start as the browser built-in to the also written-from-scratch SerenityOS.
    • Hello, From looking at the screen shots in your motherboard's manual at https://endownload.colorful.cn/EnDownload/MotherBroard/2022/Intel 600/Manual/Intel 600 Series BIOS English/Intel 600 Series BIOS User Guide.pdf, you go to the ADVANCED option at the top of the BIOS (UEFI) menu, then select SECURITY in the list of options on the left.  From there  you can enable and set the Secure Boot mode. • Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3 is getting a simultaneous release across PC and all consoles by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe Square Enix showed up to the Summer Game Fest presentation today with multiple trailers showing off its next chapter in the Final Fantasy VII Remake saga. The final chapter of this trilogy now has an official name too, with it being dubbed Final Fantasy VII Revelation, following up Final Fantasy VII Remake and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth from recent years. Vincent Valentine, Cid, Cloud, Barret, Tifa, and more showed up in the trailers as they battle against enemies, or 'Weapons,' from the final chapter. "As the world teeters on the brink of annihilation, the final battle against Sephiroth begins," says the trailer description. "A meteor mars the sky, monstrous planetary guardians wreak havoc across the globe, and the fires of war rage. Now, Cloud and his companions must stand against this chaos to not only decide the planet's fate, but bring a legendary conflict to its conclusion." Following the reveal trailer, the show also dropped some gameplay footage that shows off a new way to travel across the open world using the Highwind airship. Players will be able to swap characters on during battles, use tactical mode to synchronize with allies, and summon their entities. Cid Highwind and Vincent Valentine are joining the party this time too. “FINAL FANTASY VII, first released in 1997, has been beloved by fans for many years and has since become a “legend” in its own right," added producer Yoshinori Kitase. "The FINAL FANTASY VII Remake Series that began in 2020 with everyone’s passionate support is finally reaching its climactic finale with FINAL FANTASY VII REVELATION. The story’s final destination represents my emotions spanning thirty years working on this title" One of the biggest revelations of this announcement, however, was the multiplatform release confirmation from the get-go. Square Enix will be releasing Final Fantasy VII Revelation across PC, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PlayStation 5 in Spring 2027 without any timed exclusivity programs.
