I take your point, and there is a case for the argument that a peer reviewed open source project is more secure than a closed source However I take issue with Tiny11 (and other similar projects) - the make it easy to mess with stuff you don't understand on top of getting people in the habit of running scripts they find online without knowing what they do. Scripting is awesome, I do lots of it! OS deployment customisation is great - do lots of that too. But when it comes to modifying the OS install process safely the way is to use sanctioned routes starting with a known clean WIM - AutoPilot+Intune/SCCM I'm not saying don't play though, I did back in the day when nLite was a thing but the world is a very different place than 20 years ago and PowerShell is powerful in the wrong hands https://www.sentinelone.com/blog/deconstructing-powershell-obfuscation-in-malspam-campaigns/ Stuff like Tiny11 always seem strange to me - as those who think they need it and can't do what it does without it probably shouldn't be running it, and those that understand what it does will be capable of writing something more tailored anyhow. I'm certainly not saying you shouldn't experiment though! If you want to customise your Win11 install by ripping bits out - having worked out what the effects of removing something would be to the wider OS - 100% go for it. You'll certainly break stuff, you'll learn about DISM, you'll learn how the Windows install process actually works, you'll learn about answer files, you'll learn about fat/thin images, you'll potentially learn some PowerShell if you look to automate it too - very worthwhile use of time! (You may also find that the perceived performance benefits weren't worth the effort in terms of performance, but you'll have learnt a whole suite of new skills and knowledge along the way!) -

The saying goes a little knowledge is a dangerous thing, for example I love watching Youtube videos of mechanics/engine swaps etc - however I know that I have no business trying to drop the engine out of my car, that actual learning is required and you need to build up the layers of knowledge. Scripting is a wonderful skill to learn, and it's something I try and mentor my newer team members in - but there is both a learning curve and a sanity checking curve - especially in the age of GenAI - which is good at creating complete garbage, it *can* be useful but only if you have the understanding to sort the valid/safe approaches from the incorrect/dangerous ones You can't shortcut learning!
