Nurse refuses student inhaler during asthma attack

Recommended Posts

Schools use to be places or learning. Now they seem to be prisons and the kids are the inmates.

You are so correct!! My daughter has on occasion left her lunch on her bike, she is not allowed to back out and retrieve it, they site the safety BS or propaganda (which ever is more close), however when my child was sick for a whole week, the school was thanking me for not sending her, too many other parents send there sick kids to school regardless. They also carry this medication stuff way too far, if a child is in an asthma attack, they need there inhaler on them, not locked in the office somewhere.

sounds about right, i couldn't have been happier to drop out of my high-school, and all my unexplained health problems pretty much instantly went away too (I am living proof that today's public schools are bad for you :p)

The mother should have signed the proper forms. Kids can die from aspirin if they have a certain genetic makeup, so if they are given aspirin by the school, for certain symptoms that would suggest they needed aspirin, but they die, you are saying the school shouldn't be held accountable? I just use that one example as there are so many to consider.

It has nothing to do with being PC and everything to do with people taking responsibility for their kids and their safety and not expecting the school to make life decisions without parent's consent and written permission.

The simple fact is that the kid is still alive.

Right you are. The grade & High schools by me refuse to give even an aspirin without parental consent. Schools live in fear of being sued. So, if this article upsets you...don't be made at the nurse for following legal rules, don't be mad at the school for having such legal rules. The school is forced to play this hand because someone, somewhere sued a school district over an aspirin and won.
