Sheriff: Father kills man sexually abusing his daughter

Recommended Posts

(CNN) -- A Texas father caught a man sexually assaulting his 4-year-old daughter and punched him in the head repeatedly, killing him, authorities said.

The father was casually acquainted with the alleged abuser, said Lavaca County Sheriff Micah Harmon.

Neither has been publicly identified.

The girl was left inside the family's house during the social gathering, while other members of her family were tending to horses, the sheriff said.

The alleged abuser was known for his horse-grooming abilities, Harmon said.

The father returned to the house, caught the man in the act, and stopped him by striking him in the head several times, Harmon said.

The man was pronounced dead on the scene, while the daughter was taken to a local hospital in Victoria, Texas, for examinations before being released.

The incident took place Saturday.

Harmon described the girl as "OK besides the obvious mental trauma."

Asked whether they would press charges against the father, the sheriff responded, "You have a right to defend your daughter. He acted in defense of his third person. Once the investigation is completed we will submit it to the district attorney who then submits it to the grand jury, who will decide if they will indict him."

Harmon described the dad as "very remorseful," adding that he didn't know the man was going to die.

Authorities were withholding the deceased man's name while they notified next of kin. Officials did not know immediately if he has a prior criminal history.

Can't say I blame the guy. I'd rage if I walked in on that with either of my sons.

Yeah I don't think you have to be a parent or even like kids to be utterly on this guy's side. I hope the man suffered every single blow with full pain. Scumbag doesn't deserve to live on the same earth as the little girl he's abused. Glad he's dead.

Most of us would like to think that we'd act even if it wasn't our child. Not everyone does. Consider the Penn State situation where at least two people failed to act. I think there's something that clicks a lot harder when it's your own.

i would do the same if i was the father.

The difference between you and the father is that you'd willingly kill someone. It's implied in the article that the father didn't kill him on purpose. To me, being a murderer is worse than being a child molester.

No jailtime at all for this guy, anyone would do the same.

That's not true. I wouldn't kill someone (on purpose) for molesting a family member.

If you're talking about the father, then I support what he did to defend his daughter. I don't, however, support the fact that he ended up killing someone.

No grand jury in Texas is going to bring charges against a guy for killing someone for child molestation. And... I'm OK with that.

How do you know that?

It sounds to me like you should be one of the few supporting the worlds jail systems with your income. Maybe you should give 100% of your extra income to the system.

Personally, I'd rather him dead then having the ability to become a repeat offender.

I very much doubt that many would intentionally murder someone, even if they were abusing their child.

However, I also think it quite likely that rage would take over, and then it's anybody's guess... I'd like to think I wouldn't kill someone, but I wouldn't be willing to guarantee it if faced with that situation.

I definitely would have beat the you-know-what out of the guy, but I don't think I would have continued the beating until he died. Though, I won't know for sure until something like that happens to me...which hopefully never happens. That being said, I don't blame the father at all.

I really don't see how the "world's jail systems" are even remotely relevant to this discussion.

A life is a life, and everybody only gets one. No matter how wretched they are, death for a non lethal crime is just wrong. I fully agree with you in that it is in bad taste and rather overboard to say that this guy got what was coming.

How do you know that?

Call it a hunch. Even if it does go to trial, look at his defense: "I saw a guy touching my daughter and I kept hitting him out of rage." Then it's not murder, it's manslaughter and he's not going to be charged with that either.

How can you say death for a non-lethal crime is just wrong? Sadly, there are plenty of crimes in which victims are not killed but are still incredibly mentally/physically abused/maimed and should warrant extreme punishment.

You do the same to countless people in wars and the people who do it come home and ride in parades.

It's not that black and white. Either you apply your logic to all of them or you apply it to no one.

Same here. That waste of skin deserved everthing he got - but I'd do it slower :ninja:

We are just animals. We are not above our instincts just yet. This was one of those situations that you don't want to find yourself on the wrong end, because the bond between a father and daughter is as deep as the oceans. I would have most likley reacted in the same fashion... just losing my mind until what I was protecting was secure. You shouldn't bring harm upon another human, unless you are prepared for that harm to be returned back to you. Equal and Opposite reactions :)

While a death is horrible, we are animals, and death is a inevitability. Death will come in many forms. Some forms of death are necessary... this was one of them, as he was not innocent or moral.

    • Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) 18.1.5.5 by Razvan Serea Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) is a utility for completely removing AMD/NVIDIA/INTEL graphics drivers and related packages from your system, attempting to eliminate all leftovers (including registry entries, folders and files, driver store). Though AMD/NVIDIA/INTEL drivers can usually be removed via the Windows Control Panel, this uninstaller tool was created for situations where standard uninstall fails, or when you need to fully remove NVIDIA or ATI graphics card drivers. After using this driver cleaner, your system will behave as though it’s the first time you’re installing a new driver—similar to a fresh Windows installation. As with all such tools, we recommend creating a restore point beforehand, allowing you to undo changes if issues arise. If you're having trouble installing an older or newer driver, try it—there are reports that it resolves such problems. Recommended usage: The tool can be used in Normal mode but for absolute stability when using DDU, Safemode is always the best. Make a backup or a system restore (but it should normally be pretty safe). It is best to exclude the DDU folder completely from any security software to avoid issues. You do NOT need to uninstall the driver prior using DDU. Requirements: .NET Framework 4.8 Compatible with Windows 7, 8, 8.1, 10, and 11 (32-bit or 64-bit) Note: Using on Insider Preview builds is at your own risk.
