Here's my take...

Winamp3 was a disaster. So much so that a "Winamp3 bitchers post here" thread was created in it's honor. With 52,200+ views, and 1,200+ responses, read that over and tell me what you think it means. Nullsoft should have expected no less after unleashing this disgraceful meltdown on it's loyal fans. The backlash was amazing. Nullsoft didn't like it. I say: how dare Nullsoft have the nerve to release a P.O.S. crapware product and then have the gall to blame it's userbase for rightly asking "Dude, WHAT THE F**K!?"

Regarding "new product" versus "upgrade"... What a mess THAT was. Having 9+ years of computing experience tells me a higher number equals an "upgrade". With Nullsoft's Winamp3, that logic simply doesn't apply here. And with logic being the least of Winamp3's failings, Winamp3 felt more alpha than thing else. With it's un-optimized code, this constantly crashing, anti-social, very uncool resource pig did very little and made you wait forever until it finally decided it wasn't going to it anyway. I called it the bureaucratic MP3 player, as I essentially had to file an application just to get it to anything other than just sit there. I never found out if my requests to do anything useful with Winamp3 were actually approved or if the BSODs I got for my trouble was Winamp3's way of saying: "Not now, dammit! I have a headache." Was Nullsoft trying to set a new standard? Who knows... whatever the case, Winamp3 did everything but deliver.

Winamp3 was no upgrade. A better effort should have been made on Nullsoft's part to distinguish it from WinAmp 2, since Nullsoft insisted that it was a completely separate product, and not the upgrade to WinAmp 2. A more appropriate name might have provided a heads up to Nullsoft's userbase, such as ?CrampAmp?. A fitting name indeed, as this prog always seemed to drop dead faster than some tweaked-out raver freak hopped up on six pounds of goofballs. Insanity with the click of a mouse. That will be Winamp3's legacy, right along with the rushed nuclear accident called Netscape 6. To add insult to injury, I don't think the raver made it through OK.

Over a year later, enter WinAmp 5...

This new release is creating a lot of excitement. It's essentially everything people liked about both WinAmps 2 and 3, but with an interesting blast from the past. By now, we all know what the 5 stands for. The fusion of 2 and 3 is a very intriguing premise, made all the more promising by Nullsoft's thoughtful (and correct) decision to base this new player on the proven WinAmp 2 core.

From using this beta, I don't recognize anything about it that caused me to spit out Winamp3 faster than a sip of spoiled rotten milk. Is the the same Nullsoft that, like most of our PCs, crashed royally on Winamp3? If so, something right has finally happened over there. It looks like Nullsoft rebooted and finally got with the program. Indeed a blast from the past, WinAmp 5 is what Winamp3 should have been from the very beginning. And this is just the beta. I can't wait to see what the final release does. For the first time in more than a year, a new WinAmp sounds like music to my ears.

...count me in.

does anyone know a link to the explanation of the skinning for winamp 3+ skins, i checked their sdk. but specifically i'm looking for the explanation on the color themes.

 <gammagroup id="Backgrounds" value="-3000,-3000,-3000" gray="2" boost="0" />
  <gammagroup id="Backgrounds2" value="1764,-780,-4096" gray="2" boost="0" />

there's weird stuff like that, and i don't see how the color values can be in the thousands etc. i want to recolor modern to match c10k ergonomic.

I'm not sure if anyone posted this or not but BetaNews has version 5.

UPDATE: This seems to working just fine, you can even use classic skins (the modern skin uses A LOT more memory). You might want to add this link to the first post so people can find it.

Paste an image with the color you want to know about into IrfanView, then click on it and read the title bar

http://www.rpeterclark.com/Projects.asp (RGB-HSL-Gamma Worker) - check out this program. It can be pretty damn usefull :)

erm. there was no alpha since there hasn't been any internal testing either since that was prohibited by contracts. i know someone who works for the company too. so one of us is telling b$

no alpha indeed, but pre-alpha? you betcha

(see attached image)

Anyway im going to get the beta, I will host it on my site for those that know where to look :ninja:

will update it later!

When I first saw the skin I was in total awe, even though the buttons felt similar to the Media Player ones. After dl the beta and playing around with it the first thoughts I had were :

OMFG

did they sign on Bartibartman or what ?

or they have surely ripped his theme off

fonts

color theme styles

lol

its like mmd3

I just wanna know if they did, Coz no one has ever heard about Bartibartman after he designed the last version of Mmd3, if they havnt then the skin is a straight ripoff of the default MP button and the whole MMD3 style.

As far as the stability goes, the build is stable and isnt resource hungry either. I would say its good.

As far as the prospects of a pro version is concerned, I dont think its a good idea at all.

Thats all for now, see ya.

    • Here is the new Surface Laptop Ultra wallpaper in high resolution by Taras Buria Earlier this week, Microsoft announced the Surface Laptop Ultra, its brand-new high-end laptop powered by NVIDIA's brand-new RTX Spark processor. As usual, Microsoft gives each new device a unique wallpaper, and the Surface Laptop Ultra is no exception. While the device is not publicly available yet, somebody has already extracted its wallpaper, giving everyone a chance to get a piece of the upcoming laptop in its full-resolution glory. The Surface Laptop Ultra has a very dark, abstract wallpaper that resembles the stock wallpapers in Windows Server, albeit with much less color. Having this dark, grim wallpaper highlights the laptop's mini-LED display and its ability to cut off parts of the screen's backlight to achieve OLED-like black levels. However, if you also like light wallpapers, we made a white version by simply inverting its colors. You can download both wallpapers below (click the image, right-click it, and select "Save as"): The Surface Laptop Ultra is expected to launch later this year. Microsoft is not revealing full details yet, including the price. However, Microsoft confirmed up to 1 petaflop of AI performance and RTX 5070-level of GPU performance. The heart of the laptop has up to 20 CPU cores and 6,144 GPU cores. Additionally, Microsoft and NVIDIA boast high CPU efficiency for all-day battery life. As for the display, it is a 15-inch mini-LED display with a pixel density of 262 ppi and a maximum brightness of 2,000 nits. Of course, not everyone needs this amount of power, and certainly not everyone can afford it. For those who need a more affordable device, Microsoft is also preparing the next-generation Surface Pro powered by the Snapdragon X2 Elite processor. Weeks ahead of the announcement, details about this computer were leaked by a retailer. Do you like the Surface Laptop Ultra's stock wallpaper? Share your thoughts in the comments.
