According to stats for Q2 of this year, the Motorola DROID RAZR MAXX has outsold the iPhone 4S on Verizon Wireless, reports DroidLife.

Motorola have come out on top with the RAZR MAXX and it may all be due to the constant marketing techniques of Verizon. Verizon have been like a dog with a bone with the MAXX, never letting it go, pushing the powerful 4G LTE network device to the max. However this may be just for the moment and the Motorola RAZR MAXX may soon be knocked of their pedestal when we see the Samsung Galaxy S3 arrive later this month.

While all eyes were on the Samsung Galaxy S3 to take the throne from the iPhone 4S, it now looks like the Apple phone may be running out of steam on its own.

Honestly it doesn't surprise me kind how old the iphone 4s is and every time I go to verizon they try to dissuade people from buying an iphone and they want to you to buy an Android phone.

What, sales reps trying to sell you something you didn't ask for originally? Who would've thought!

Well the thing is Verizon looses money on more money on the iphone then Android. So naturally one would think verizon would push android over the iphone. Its amazing the iphone beets android phone for so long. Personally I think the whole us cellar system totally screwed up in US is screwed up.

Guess that's one way to make a phone appear more successful... it's selling better on ONE particular network in one particular country. *laughs* Power to them.

verizon has the biggest nationwide coverage.

Well, the 4S isn't a very exciting upgrade over the iPhone 4, and I imagine most people who own iPhone 4 are waiting for iPhone 5 before they upgrade. And I'd imagine that iPhone 5 will briefly be the top-selling phone until the next big Android afterward is released.

I find it hilarious too, but if that makes them feel better then good for them.

To who? The reality is that individual Android phones are now outselling iPhone, something that Apple fans have been saying will never happen. Well, I guess hell froze over. Not only that but Motorola phone no less. So we have Samsung now, Motorola and Galaxy Nexus is not far away too. I wouldn't be surprised that HTC joins that list very soon too.

Yeah and I'm sure there are reasons and have nothing to do with the fact that people are preferring Android phones over iPhone.

I find it hilarious that you extrapolate what is happening in one carrier in one market. If it makes you feel happy, then good for you.

well verizon is the largest carrier in one of the biggest markets, so yea, its kind of relevant.

If anything I'm surprised the sales of the 4S weren't cannibalized 2 months ago. Anyone who is in the market for an iPhone knows to wait because the iPhone 5 will be out in 3-4 months time.

4S has been in the market for 8 months now.

the razr/razr maxx isnt exactly a new phone either, the 4s isnt really that much older.

The Maxx is quite new and apparently Verizon has been running tons of ads on it recently about its extended battery life. Also keep in mind that only one iPhone matches the price of the Maxx out of the three models Verizon sell. Some consumers may just be more budget orientated.

the maxx is like 6 months old, thats not anywhere close to being new when it comes to smartphones.

I stand corrected. But I still think iPhone owners are waiting for the next one and that is why its sales aren't as high as the Maxx. Not to mention all of verizons droid advertising.

Well these are stats for Q2.. so if they are waiting they are waiting for it 6+ months ahead of release, which doesn't make sense. Let's face it, good phone, lots of advertising and people love it. Simple as that. iPhone is losing steam and while iPhone 5 will most likely be great sales when it comes out, Even mid-range Android phones are now at the level of iPhone and higher end ones just trump it with features, plus a lot of diversity and options and price is right. In addition carriers love Android more than they do iPhone. And the result is Android individual phones outselling iPhone. Very simple really.

    • They already threw the Ultra 1st gen under the bus?
    • Right, Google... because that's who this is going to. Google, the company who's entire business model is geared around ad revenue and your personal data.
    • That is the natural course for regulations. First to protect the consumer. Then to protect the business/industry from upstart competition. There are countless examples across history.
    • I have never been a huge fan of libre, it feels really good but exactly when you need an advance feature for data wrangling it falls short every time or has bugs. I am all for euro office if they can deliver a good and usable alternative to MS office with backing of govt function.
    • Go on, I'll bite. How does windows (nice comment on an 'article' which doesn't actually involve it ) lock users out of their data then? Been using it since 3.1 back in 92 and not once have I been locked out of my data? Perhaps you mean Bitlocker? In which case the average user (who doesn't mess about) will have been forced to use a MSA, and in which case the recovery key would have been saved to said account..... If the user did happen to bodge around and not use an MSA then Bitlocker wouldn't have become live (as it cannot without a safe place to store the key) I want to point out Bitlocker and MSA are not connected and you can of course force it on without a safe place to store the key, but you do that with your eyes open. So your standard consumer who knows no better sets up an MSA, gets bitlocker and a recovery key stored off box, with a route to reset their password. All of this notwithstanding the fact, if your data is important, you back it up, no ifs, no buts, no-ones responsibility other than your own. Important data lives in at least two locations, one of which is offline and recovery is tested, otherwise that data wasn't really that important. Disks, fail, laptops get lost, phones end up down the toilet, tablets get stolen, if your only copy of data is on a single device you're doing it wrong.
