it seems like Windows Phone is the default option for whoever missed the Android bus and is going under, a cash injection from Microsoft doesn't hurt either. If RIM didn't have their heads up their ass with the Playbook, they could have easily dominated with QNX/BB10 in enterprise market.

They already gave themselves a huge headstart by making QNX binary compatible with Android apps, all they needed to do was make the Playbook not suck (by not requiring a Blackberry phone for full functionality of the tablet) and market/price it aggressively to get some penetration and the App store kick started to get devs to republish their apps to QNX.

If they could have achieved market success with Playbook we would already be seeing some BB10 phones with nice keyboards to win back BB fans.

Instead they made a lame "wake up" campaign which they misdelivered to an Apple store in Australia where nobody knew who they were, instead doing it at their own headquarters in Canada.

RIM could go with WP8 and port their applications over, this would help Microsoft in the Enterprise market. But I think the BBM service should be sold to people on any handset since a lot of people (especially younger ones) like the BBM server to talk to people. They offer a subscription model and get money from other handsets without actually doing anything other than releasing an application for each platform.

Let's all be honest, there is no room for an extra OS in the market. iOS, Android and Windows Phone are advanced and mature (WP8 will be mature) operating systems that are designed for todays needs. RIM are too far behind.
