New System Sounds and Beautiful Ringtones in Windows 8 RTM

Recommended Posts

Here's a look at the new Windows 8 system sounds that will replace those that came with Windows 7. There are additional sounds for new features in Windows 8, like notification, and messaging nudge. This video also looks at some ringtones that came with Windows 8.

I made this video to demo these sounds. Sit back and enjoy!

It seems that some people aren't able to keep on topic and make strong comments that tend to lead to a chain of replies that are a never-ending battle. Please, for the sake of good user experience, refrain from doing this. No one wants to read pointless arguments. We need a good discussion and opinions about the topic at hand.

Are you paid by Microsoft?

All you seem to do is make pro-windows 8 threads. The sounds are awful they all sound the same.

I am not paid by Microsoft because the company is able to afford real advertisement agency, although the quality of their ads are questionable.

But nice to see you have seen my other threads! Nice to meet you too!

Also, please keep the conversation about the topic, which is system sounds and ringtones in Windows 8 RTM

Better than doing nothing but making anti-windows 8 threads. So he likes Windows 8. He's not alone. Deal with it.

A) I don't make Windows 8 threads, anti or otherwise

B) There are LOADS of threads dedicated to Windows 8, theres no need to keep creating pro-windows 8 threads for every little feature.

And yet it's just fine to make anti-Windows 8 topics for every little thing...

Anyway, I kind of wish Win8 still had the sound packs that Win7 had, but at least "Windows Default" was changed up quite a bit from previous releases.

you are kinda overreacting there bud. also this isnt even a "pro-windows 8" post.. its just a post, he doesnt say if its good or bad.. settle petal

I feel sad for you. Somehow you're mouse seem to auto-click on these "pro windows 8" threads, you seem to be forced to read in these fanboy posts and there really is no choice. You can't ignore it, right?

Yes, I don't understand why those sounds are gone, anyway. However, if you do an in-place upgrade from Windows 7, those sounds are preserved. Since many will upgrade from Windows 7, they won't loose the sounds.

Also, please don't divert too much from to much from the topic. No one likes to read replies that are nothing but endless and pointless arguments.

Isn't that expected from someone who likes Windows 8? It'd be silly if someone made an anti-Windows 8 thread when they don't agree with what they're saying in that thread.

I suppose but there are enough threads about Windows 8 as it is, cant they just consolidate everything into one big Windows 8 thread. Same with anti-threads.

This thread is not about "Why I like WIndows 8". This is simply showing off a feature of Windows 8. Contrary to what you claim, there are, from my knowledge and at the time of this writing, no other threads on the Neowin forums about new system sounds in Windows 8 RTM. If you haven't noticed, this thread is under the "Microsoft Beta" section, which is about showing off new features of future MS product, which this thread is exactly doing. But here's a full disclaimer: I love Windows 8. I never want to go back to Windows 7. Yes, there are gripes, but I still love it. There, I said it. But that still doesn't mean this thread is about me liking or disliking Windows 8. It's about a particular new feature demo.

Some people actually like Windows 8 and want to share what they think is good.

Anyway I love the sounds, the new device in/out sounds are really smooth, and the beep (like when you backspace when there's no text) sounds way better than the 7/Vista version that got on my nerves.

I like the Win8 sounds. The alerts are softer which is better when I forget to turn off sounds and I'm in the middle of a class :D

It's on the Microsoft Beta section which I think is good enough. A single thread means some posts about a different aspect of the OS might get buried. I am sometimes annoyed by some of the threads that seem redundant (anti or pro). What I do is just to ignore them.

Just because I don't like Metro doesn't mean I'm not interested in Windows 8, and certainly doesn't mean I'm not allowed to criticise it as stated in the thread I said they sound very much alike and the first thing I will do is disable them.

Cool, thanks for the video. Those sounds are easy on the ears.

I think the sounds are quite nice. There are some thing might find the sounds a bit too gentile, though, like the new Aero theme in Windows 8.

But on the bright side, it is now possible to change push notification (aka toast) sounds. That was not possible in the consumer preview and the release preview.

This topic is now closed to further replies.

    • I can agree that it is being used in a small capacity. I worked for a company where their engineers still used XP, and when asked why it was because their sensor software wasn't compatible with newer operating systems and the software was discontinued so they couldn't upgrade the software. Given that the sensors were still in use by companies, they had to continue using XP to support the sensor, otherwise the price to the company would have gone into the millions or billions. Our response was simple: Ok, you can keep the XP machine. But we're removing it from the network. "But then it can't access the Internet or folder shares!" Yup, kinda the point. If someone wants to continue using an unsecure OS they can do, I have no problem with that. But it should be isolated. Simple. I had a fight with a guy in the engineering department for weeks before he finally relented. But we digress.   What do I plan on doing to commemorate the anniversary? Nothing. I have fond memories of the OS, but at the end of the day it's just an OS. If I had some time I might see if I could install it on my Raspberry Pi for a laugh. But my reflex memory with today's OS ideas would probably get me frustrated and I'd uninstall it after 5 mins.
