Texas to execute inmate diagnosed as 'mentally retarded'

Oh you act so high and mighty. You reek of arrogance. Making excuses for criminals now are we? You don't have to explain anything to me I know how the justice system works. I was explaining how I'd run it though. No I wouldn't shoot him in the street, i'd make him eat English cooking, that would make him beg for mercy. :)

hah, the hypocrisy is astounding.

Glad to see you sticking to your idea of not knocking other countries there, Oh wait.

Most of the cost comes from the trail. If someone like james holmes gets arrested for murdering people you really think he's innocent? No need to drag on the process. Whos going to argue that hes innocent anyway? Swift justice. innocent until proven guilty? I believe the people he killed pretty much proves hes guilty.

On the news he said he was talking until he got a laywer... I never understood that. If he's willingly talking, let him keep going and let him admit it and close the case, and throw him 6ft under quickly.

Texas, a state that rejects scientific consensus

Bingo! Also, having eaten cuisine from around the world: English food while cooking smells like it should - ingredients being cooked. American food while cooking smells of chemicals and fat.

It costs more to execute a person than to let them remain in jail for the rest of their lives. Even so, is the US obsession with money so extreme that people would rather execute prisoners if it would save money? And all this from a country that talks up its Christian values. Crazy.

I'd like to see some links with facts about the cost... I find that hard to believe, however, even if it's true, how much does a bullet cost? Pretty sure you only need one if you want to execute somebody.

BTW... read up on captial punishment/christian values before you call us all crazy.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capital_punishment#Christianity

Well according to this 90,000$ a year to house someone on death row in California. As for the the axact amount just for an execution, I couldn't find out. But in my opinion, it would be significantly less, just for the procedure. You can't tell me that the chemicals to put someone down costs 25mil.

So basically the state of Texas can do what ever the hell they want to do? A kind of 'To hell with the law?' or is this just a way for everyone to feel pity for the prisoner?

No, but they don't put up with people faking it. This prisoner is only a retard now after the appeal that he wrote and filed him self failed. He was involved in his own defense and was noted as have a normal to above normal intelligence. His original public defender can't figure out how he can make the mental defective claim, he though he was was more then normal when he handle the case, he is now retired and has done several interviews on it, which the current defense teams are fighting.

Hmm, where did I hear that a law is a law if its broke the person must be punished, no exceptions..

Dunno, Iran? Or, it might be China, Iraq or North-Korea. That almost sums up the list of national states that execute people next to the US.

wth are you talking about? What does scientific consensus have to do with anything?

Wow... What DOESN'T it have to do with this!

:/ No.

Sorry, but Yes. Our food smells of, well... Food. You may not be used to that...

You're right but I think he's cleverly refering to this thread he started - https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1096001-sas-hero-jailed-sergeant-sentenced-to-two-years-after-gun-found/

I like how the article almost completely dismisses the guy's crime because of his mental state.

While all you folks are ready to drop the bomb on Texas because we're stupid, religious, backward gun fanatics, I still see nothing wrong with this at all. Not because I'm some crazed loon, but rather that I firmly believe stupid people shouldn't continue to reproduce. I'm not for the promotion for the genocide of these people now, but if they do something that somehow castrates them or ends in their death, so be it. I won't cry when I read the Darwin awards, I'm not sure how you expect me to be upset by someone who took another man's life. It's not like anyone's killing him for his mental state, but rather for his actions.

And seeing how as we're arguing who's food smells better, you guys do nothing but prove the point that you're once again fighting a children's game of one-upmanship.

What the hell, man?

I would actually bet money you've never had Salmon as good as mine, grilled on a cedar plank with lemon pepper rub, garlic, white wine with brown sugar to glaze the top. Or chicken breast seared on the stove with a dry rub, garlic, and white wine. I'd also venture to bet you've never had such good BBQ as what they have in the south. Not sure where you get your ideas of "American" cooking but it's certainly not accurate.

It's not dismissing his crime but stating that -

"In 2002, the US supreme court banned executions for all such prisoners under the Eighth Amendment of the constitution that prohibits excessive punishment. The 2002 ban, in Atkins v Virginia, is categorical: individuals with mental retardation cannot be put to death."

I'm not arguing that he needs removing from society, maybe not reproducing - but I feel that murdering him IF he was legally found to be mentally unable to evaluate his decisions is a ridiculous outcome.

As for food - I'd gladly take part in another discussion elsewhere.

I'd rather think that while I may thoroughly enjoy your salmon, I have eaten at some of the best restaurants in the UK and around the world. Worked with chefs who cook for royalty and a few "celbrity chefs" too. I'd take that bet ;)

    • Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) 18.1.5.5 by Razvan Serea Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) is a utility for completely removing AMD/NVIDIA/INTEL graphics drivers and related packages from your system, attempting to eliminate all leftovers (including registry entries, folders and files, driver store). Though AMD/NVIDIA/INTEL drivers can usually be removed via the Windows Control Panel, this uninstaller tool was created for situations where standard uninstall fails, or when you need to fully remove NVIDIA or ATI graphics card drivers. After using this driver cleaner, your system will behave as though it’s the first time you’re installing a new driver—similar to a fresh Windows installation. As with all such tools, we recommend creating a restore point beforehand, allowing you to undo changes if issues arise. If you're having trouble installing an older or newer driver, try it—there are reports that it resolves such problems. Recommended usage: The tool can be used in Normal mode but for absolute stability when using DDU, Safemode is always the best. Make a backup or a system restore (but it should normally be pretty safe). It is best to exclude the DDU folder completely from any security software to avoid issues. You do NOT need to uninstall the driver prior using DDU. Requirements: .NET Framework 4.8 Compatible with Windows 7, 8, 8.1, 10, and 11 (32-bit or 64-bit) Note: Using on Insider Preview builds is at your own risk. Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) 18.1.5.5 changelog: Added 'Reset to recommended' button for the Options. General fixes and improvements. WACUP 1.99.51.24568 Preview changelog: Fixed a deadlock seen from the recent crash reports when doing some of the drag + drop actions within the media library window Fixed a loading crash seen related to a problem with some of the artwork cache image files being restored which should now be better handled allowing for the bad image to be removed without it failing Fixed a deadlock seen from the recent crash reports when the internal metadata cache clearing is triggered which could block the main ui thread for too long with this now being moved to a background thread Fixed some performance issues with some of the methods related to determining artwork support which mainly affected the local library import / refresh (this is still slower for some compared to other players because there's more data & artwork aspects being checked for which means doing more processing on a single file despite the best of attempts to reduce duplicate / heavy processing where possible) Fixed a crash with the JTFE based missing files hotkey which no one seems to have used for an age for this to appear (maybe it's time to seriously consider stripping out features that aren't being used) Fixed how some of the file types which use extra information to reference their sub-songs is handled which was preventing some from being correctly resolved back to their base file (noticed fixing above) Fixed an issue with the handling of files with underscores in their filepath which wasn't being correctly handled causing some of the filename to be lost when shown as the title if title reading is delayed Fixed a few things that might be behind NotSoDirect not being stable for some setups though am still not certain that the changes done for this are going to fully resolve the problem from the crash reports Fixed the OS toast handling when there's no prior shortcut in the OS start menu to now create the shortcut (needed to allow the yes/no buttons for the new build / post-release toast) to be done as a hidden one so it's less likely to cause annoyance for those not wanting to see it whilst still allowing this less than ideal OS api implementation requirement to be met to avoid toasts without the needed buttons Fixed a regression when moving from taglib1 to taglib2 which broke some of the handling in place to allow for external programs to still access files when wacup has a held open cached instance of the file Everything else Updated cppwinrt (gen_win10shell.dll) to 3.0.260520.1 (26 May 2026) Updated libcurl (libcurl.dll) to 8.2.1 (24 Jun 2026) Updated Monkey's Audio (in_ape.dll) to 13.15 (28 Jun 2026) Updated mpg123 (mpg123.dll) to 1.33.6 (6 Jun 2026) Updated OpenSSL (libcurl.dll) to 3.5.7 (9 Jun 2026) Updated pugixml to 1.16 (16 Jun 2026) Updated taglib (tag2.dll) to 2.3.0 (11 May 2026) Updated vgmstream (in_vgmstream.dll) to the latest Git commit from 28 Jun 2026 Download: WACUP 64-bit | 9.6 MB (Freeware) Download: WACUP 32-bit View: WACUP Website | Screenshots Get alerted to all of our Software updates on Twitter at @NeowinSoftware
