thank you for your reply guess I have to play the waiting game to get my details.

I bought mine a few days ago and was able to access downloads/keys INSTANTLY. I paid with a credit card though. It was the same way when I bought it in 2009 too. I think checks take longer to clear though.

TBH, I don't really like the concept of virtualisation; not for production systems.

If you've got a bunch of virtual servers all sitting on one physical server and something in the hardware fails, you lose ALL your virtual servers. That's fine for general use, but no good at all for business critical systems.

Thats where DRS and HA come in. You would never build out a single host virtual environment, not only because it creates a single point of failure, but because unless your organization goes for full Enterprise+ licensing, you are limited to 4 workloads per physical processor (not core). Virtualization done right allows for lower TCO (total cost of ownership) for your server hardware and software environments. Services like Exchange, Lync, System Center, DC, file share, etc. do not require the massive amounts of RAM and processing power that are typically found in rackmounted servers. As long as you plan for proper density and fualt tolerance, you can't go wrong.

Not to mention that solutions like VDI, UCS, etc allow you to virtualize you clients as well, which simplifies management dramatically.

We've had ESXi hardware failures, but were were able to maintain uptime by moving workloads around to other cluster members to spread the load.

When I got on there this morning, I got frequest errors trying to access keys and downloads. I also didn't see the Pro version available (I have Technet Standard), only VL options which are reserved for Technet Professional.

EDIT: Okay nevermind, just went on again and it's working, got pro keys too.

Technet Professional is giving me

(1) Enterprise MAK key

(3) Professional keys

(3) Professional N keys.

Just for anyone wondering.

Also, changing over from a KMS key to a Technet key worked and activated successfully

slmgr -upk

slmgr -ipk <New Key>

That's EXACTLY how mine looks like right now lol! I need to distract myself with something else while it finishes the DL, I think ill go play some WoW :p

Question guys, does anyone know if the Windows 7 USB/DVD download tool will work with a Windows 8 ISO so i can make a windows 8 usb boot drive?

Yes it does but I suggest you to not use it since it's formatting the USB key to NTFS and not FAT; hence you can't install windows 8 with UEFI support.

Anyone know why I could request product keys for Windows 8 Pro but is not able to download one? This is weird...

There is not a separate ISO for Pro. Your product key decides if it is Pro or not.

Anyone know why I could request product keys for Windows 8 Pro but is not able to download one? This is weird...

As usual, the key controls it and then again "Windows 8" if you look at the file name it says WIndows 8 Pro anyways so you aren't looking right!

Just wanted to give you a heads up. I'm not sure about what your long term usage of the products you download from technet is, but they have changed how long you can uses the keys. Once your subscription expires so does your keys.

i dont know how truthful this is, my subscription ended and my keys still work and activate, unless you mean you just arent supposed to install them anymore my keys havent expired to the point where i cannot activate them

    • Any decent ITSM will A) have a web form that allows a user to raise a ticket, if you're writing an email you can write a ticket. B) Monitor a mailbox and auto-generate tickets based on inbound mails for those users that really can't get their heads around the concept that if you have an issue you go to support.mycompany.com and fill in the box. From your description you're having users email the desk, and then having a human read each one and manually raise a ticket on behalf of the user.

    • I've never even heard of this browser before seeing this article. How does it differ from other browsers?
    • Fixing things? Have you ever tried linux? Everything works out of the box nowadays in most common hardware. This includes Wifi and Bluetooth. If anything, if they return back to windows is because they haven't found an equivalent program which often used on windows.
    • 18 months ago I bought the 4TB variant for $380 CDN. Now it is $1500 CDN [$949 US].
