Raa
iPhone 4 sold 4 million units, iPhone 5 sold 5 million units... pattern there? :p Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1107741-iphone-5-opening-weekend-sales-worse-than-expected/page/3/#findComment-595203271 Share on other sites
Hell-In-A-Handbasket
this is a great point. and also ignoring the fact that they didnt have any more to sell, the main reason they didnt meet the expectations. unless you expect the phones to appear out of midair but because your eschewed view ignores pretty much anything counter to your view it makes sense that you ignored the sold out / not enough made part Stetson, grik and Draken 3 Share Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1107741-iphone-5-opening-weekend-sales-worse-than-expected/page/3/#findComment-595203273 Share on other sites
Stetson
this is a great point. It is if you ignore supply constraints. I think the first full quarter will be a much better indicator of growth in relation to the larger market. grik 1 Share Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1107741-iphone-5-opening-weekend-sales-worse-than-expected/page/3/#findComment-595203275 Share on other sites
techbeck
I am betting Apple will wine and use this in their next lawsuits claiming that they are losing money because their ideas have been stolen. They are currently doing this now, this will just add to it. techbeck
What does any of that have to do with not having enough stock to meet demand? Doesnt matter. Apple was awarded lost profits on the time when the iPhone was only available on AT&T and when Android was available everywhere. Another reason that Samsung vs Apple case is messed up. Apple will spin this if it suits their advantage. They have done it before. Growled Member Posted September 26, 2012 Member Share Posted September 26, 2012 I read an article on Cnet where it stated that Apple was having screen issues. Seems the larger screen is harder to make and resulted in screen shortages. Hence, iPhone 5 shortages. I think the difficulties are because of the new in-cell touch sensor integration, not just the screen size. Sandor
Um.. it's obvious where Apple will end up.. I said the same thing with Android and Apple fanboys said "OMG Android will never come close to iPhone".. and we see how that ended up. Face it.. Apple has been milking the same phone for 5 years.. they are are not innovating anything, they have a stale OS and it's inevitable. Consumers will eventually wake up and realize "Damn, I'm buying the same thing over and over again".. unfortunately consumers are slow to realize that, and that's why Apple gets away with mediocrity and marginal improvements. Yep. The early iPhones were behind technologically but offered a design and experience that was generally superior to anything else that was around at the time. These days? Plenty of phones that are as good or better. iOS. Great in it's day. It's really starting to look it's age though. The cynical money grabs with new connectors and the age old "more storage? pay us $hundreds more for the privilege!" when SD cards cost a fraction of that. Apple used to be the "little guy". The trendy brand who seemed cooler than the other lot. But now they seem to spend more on lawyers than developing their product. Sure they have a solid retail presence. Keeping control of the software and hardware has benefits. Usually an iPhone gets a few iOS updates over the space of a few years. A lot of android users complain of buying handsets and get dumped within months and stuck on old versions. But that sort of retail strength is being challenged now by Microsoft with their attempts to get in on the game. Microsoft is also getting close to a stage where it won't be a stretch to have nearly seemless operation of your phone, tablet and desktop at home and in work. At the core of it, Apple is no longer the trendy dude just trying to get along. They're no longer bringing out products that beat the competition. For a company who relies on their image and their never ending stream of sales records to justify their $700 share price (LOL) it could be the next RIM or Nokia (before they became cool again) waiting to happen. Scorbing
According to AT&T, I can upgrade if I want to to the new iPhone 5 but I think I'm gonna pass on this one. I don't see the point in giving up my perfectly functioning iPhone 4S for a new iPhone that has only 2 things different than mine: a) .05 inches more screen (tall) - Wow...I'm impressed.... b) 4G LTE - the current "4G" I have works fast enough. As far as the CPU is concerned, I see no difference in performance or anything that would justify throwing away $400.00. It just isn't worth it. dead.cell
I saw one news station predicting 6 million sales within the opening weekend, and another predicting 10 million within the first month. Compare that to some of the analysts who expected 6-10 million in the one weekend alone. Does anyone not see how freakin' WIDE the scope for these predictions are?? It's bad enough that we get terrible statistics being put out in "research studies" based on very small test samples, not including certain variables, and so forth, but now we're gonna sit and act surprised when these predictions are way off? :/ Makes me worry about the 'splosions that would go on in people's heads when the weather man turned out to be wrong. kevpan815
That can NOT be correct, at least NOT here in the U.S.A. where Verizon Wireless Customers are Screaming about how their Verizon Wireless Dot Com Pre Oders have been Delayed till amost Halloween due to the Foxconn Riot! The only reason I got my Verizon Wireless Apple IPhone 5 Shipped to me before the Foxconn Riot was the fact that I Preordered from Apple Dot Com and they Shipped my IPhone 5 directly from China exactly 1 day before the Foxconn Riot! Just FYI. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1107741-iphone-5-opening-weekend-sales-worse-than-expected/page/3/#findComment-595211537 Share on other sites
