Galley
I bought the upgrade version of Windows XP Pro on release day, and have used it on several computers. I tend to punish my computers, installing tons of shareware, etc. I have yet to see a Blue Screen of Death! Do they even exist in Windows XP? ;)
carpetmankent
Yes it exists. I used to get it a lot with my old Voodoo3 card. However you can turn it off, so, in theory you can make it BSOD free easily, lol.
wicker_man
i got some kernel dumps in XP Pro when i was burning a cd and playing UT on my lappie :)
MLapointe
I did get a BSOD once just before it officially released. It was RC2 I believe so that doesn't count for me. Since I've been using Windows XP which from from day one I haven't had one BSOD. I have software freeze up but not the OS so that for me is a big big improvement from ME. I don't mind waiting for Longhorn since its not the same as waiting for XP when your on ME.
threetonesun
Can't say I have, the worst I ever see in XP is programs lock up, which is a big difference from ME *shudders*
Bubbo
My brother used to get it a lot after he upgraded to XP, several times a day until he upgraded away from his ati card. I've never had one on my computer.
broo
Ive had a few recent, however they are all due to bugs in my display driver (Radeon, cats 3.7 and 3.8). Not very often though, never more then 1 a month if that.
FlishFun Veteran Posted October 31, 2003 Veteran Share Posted October 31, 2003 I've only ever had 2. One when using an "updated" driver for my USB Wireless NIC (at home). The other when installing an "updated" video driver on my pc (at work). Besides those, I've never had any probs with XP. :D
Joel
Only with a bad, unofficial video driver. Otherwise, no BSODs for me.
BxBoy
I get occasionally lockups on my laptop, but that could be something else. Anyway, I'm glad the days of 9x is over.. I don't have to save my files every 5 mins in fear of a BSOD.. wow, it's been 2 years already.. man, time flies!
lostspyder
yeah everone says how much winblows and all this, but m$ has been making incredibly good software as of late. I havent had any problems with winXP, besides that its a little laggy after i leave it on overnight (i think this is due to viris scans, etc). I can hardly wait to see what there doing with longhorn. DsnBehind
I've never had one. Anyone tried the "Manually initiated crash" feature of Windows? :D X-Setup | System | Crash Control | Blue Screen Hotkey (Crash On Demand) | Allow manually initiated crash
Banjo
I've only had one non-Halo related BSOD *shakes fist at Halo programmers* and that was when I accidentaly used the new hardware detected thing to install video drivers  I've probably had about 50 BSODs from Halo
b1kshad0w
I had one about two months ago from a beta video card driver I was playing with for my geforce 2 gts. Other than that, I had a lockup last night trying to use sisandra to find optimazations. Soon as it tried to check my mobo, it locked right up. Not even a blue screen. I am very happy with windows xp. I tried installing 98 so I could play resident evil, the first one, and win98 kept blue screening on me.
Steven
I've had them, but they were my fault. Just overclocked too much. After setting my Overclocks Correctly everything is fine. Before my adventure into Overclocking I never had any.

aem4162
I've had BSODs since day one while using both Pro and Home (I'm using Pro now). I'm STILL trying to figure out the codes. My drivers and bios are up to date and my memory is ok. My hardware is ok, although one of the error codes points to a piece of hardware the I DON'T EVEN HAVE. I have a nice collection of pictures of my BSODs. I am SO GLAD I got that Canon S400. Spyder Veteran Posted October 31, 2003 Veteran Share Posted October 31, 2003 wow you have some serious hardware problems going on if you've got that many BSOD's. if you built your current computer, don't do it next time. (not trying to be mean, just honest)
gwilson
Not a one. I'm so glad that I don't have to restart my computer when a program freezes as well even though it has happened fewer than ten times.

AxelStone
I've had BSODs since day one while using both Pro and Home (I'm using Pro now). I'm STILL trying to figure out the codes. My drivers and bios are up to date and my memory is ok. My hardware is ok, although one of the error codes points to a piece of hardware the I DON'T EVEN HAVE. I have a nice collection of pictures of my BSODs. I am SO GLAD I got that Canon S400.A list of BSODs from the last 2 weeks or so: 101-0166 page fault in non paged area stop: 0x00000050 (0x86bf92a0,0x00000000, 0x8051a181, 0x00000000) 101-0170 stop: 0x00000024 (0x001902fa, 0xf7c66898, 0xf7c66598, 0xf76d20f6) ntfs.sys - Linux is looking REALLY GOOD these days. Note: Common instances of random BSODs like that are CPU, bad memory, or bad HD. (With it usually revolving around the HD cache). Dont go flaming me I'm just stating common occurances to help the guy out.

aem4162
I've been building my computers for about 8yrs now and I NEVER had problems like this with 3.1, 95, 98, or 98se. I've had the cpu, mobo, and memory tested and I used WDs diagnostics on the HD to check them and they passed.
