^ You're not really playing by yourself, unless you've set your region to private. You can play with other people in the region (up to 16). And it actually working really well from what I tried.

Sandbox mode isn't fun. It ruins the whole point of the game; build your city starting from dirt roads. It's not fun to start with a million and buy everything from the start.

I just spent hours in the game getting to 140k citizens in stable environment, developing the city mainly on my earnings from the trade port like I was living on a welfare check that comes every hour :) Selling processors on the global market. Importing the materials to build them for about 50k (can't remember for sure) and selling them for almost the double, if not more. Next gonna to save up a million and build a great work area by my city to get some extra work force.

City starting to look nice:

Very cool! I haven't been able to play since Tuesday because of all the issues. I tried today, it put me in a 19min queue, which kept resetting to 3min each time. Stupid EA, how could they not see this coming?

Not "legally". Or maybe a better way of putting it is, not without breaking the ToS. (I'm not sure if it is "out in the wild" haven't looked).

Unless people set up a fake server in their own PC (and according to EA that's impossible because they have 1trillionhertz glassbox renderer machine) or am I mistaken?

*tries not to scream*...... ok this is getting annoying....... went to go in again.... server unavailable....... cant get into any of them grrrrrrr.... here ea just let me give you money so i can do nothing......was so excited for this game, loved it during beta....

Here?s a quick update on the problems we were experiencing with SimCity ? and a little something extra for people who bought the game.

The server issues which began at launch have improved significantly as we added more capacity. But some people are still experiencing response and stability problems that we?re working fast to address.

So what went wrong? The short answer is: a lot more people logged on than we expected. More people played and played in ways we never saw in the beta.

OK, we agree, that was dumb, but we are committed to fixing it. In the last 48 hours we increased server capacity by 120 percent. It?s working ? the number of people who have gotten in and built cities has improved dramatically. The number of disrupted experiences has dropped by roughly 80 percent.

So we?re close to fixed, but not quite there. I?m hoping to post another update this weekend to let everyone know that the launch issues are behind us.

Something Special for Your Trouble

The good news is that SimCity is a solid hit in all major markets. The consensus among critics and players is that this is fundamentally a great game. But this SimCity is made to be played online, and if you can?t get a stable connection, you?re NOT having a good experience. So we?re not going to rest until we?ve fixed the remaining server issues.

And to get us back in your good graces, we?re going to offer you a free PC download game from the EA portfolio. On March 18, SimCity players who have activated their game will receive an email telling them how to redeem their free game.

I know that?s a little contrived ? kind of like buying a present for a friend after you did something crummy. But we feel bad about what happened. We?re hoping you won?t stay mad and that we?ll be friends again when SimCity is running at 100 percent.

SimCity is a GREAT game and the people who made it are incredibly proud. Hang in there ? we?ll be providing more updates throughout the weekend.

Probably because your stupid beta only lasted an hour EA :p Made sense for a demo, not for a beta.

Looks like EA is giving SimCity players a free game as a "sorry-we=f'd-up present".

So at least those of you who bought the game have that to look forward to. Too bad it's a free EA game though.

Unless people set up a fake server in their own PC (and according to EA that's impossible because they have 1trillionhertz glassbox renderer machine) or am I mistaken?

D3 had an emulated server or something even in the beta (haven't tried though), so if there isn't something already out, you can bet people are working on it.

The servers are mainly responsible for friend list/region updates (City X sent goods to City Y, both cities being on different PCs)/saving. And people are already working on reverse engineering the protocol (It's HTTP/JSON), so it probably won't be that long.

I unlocked two so far. Big lizard and earthquake. Can't remember what I did to unlock the big lizard, but I think the earthquake unlocked when my coal mine collapsed.

Yeah I've had more than a few happen. Just hadn't seen any recently, but then, I finally stopped playing for hours until they clear things up.

and have you pay like $15 to unlock them

I will note that some Sims 3 patches added significant features though they didn't usually change the gameplay, so that's not necessarily true.

Euro servers work great here in the morning. not only did I get my second city up working great with ore mines and nice working layout, I was also able to switch between the towns just fine.

It'll probably be worse later in the day again, but I'll be gone then so :)

    • It is when it's a desktop in my house though for a PC that's lightly used and not really important when it is. If it was a laptop, it would be a different story. The real solution is varied and begins starting at post #22 in that thread.
