I do realise it is a business, but that doesn't change the fact that series has suffered from being consolised, gameplay and community wise. To this day I'm still mad that EA didn't have someone else to work on the CoD killer they so desperately want. As a business I understand them, but if the series had stayed true to it's original form it might not have gotten as many sales, but it would still be very popular and active, that I do not doubt.

'Consolised' is kind of ignoring the legitimate reasons PC gaming isn't what it should be. Multiplatform games are certainly hamstrung by console hardware, but PC gamers hanging on to 32 bit OSes has hamstrung things on the other side. Damn glad the next gen consoles are around the corner because it should trigger an overdue change in PC gaming as well (and XPs support ending will definately help.)

Things should start getting interesting again after this year. I'm kind of excited, though it's still a ways out so not that much.

Have either of you guys played the Armored Kill DLC, the maps are freaking huge.

Looking down on upper Allied Base. See the size of the Sherman at the factory?

Looking down the desert, you can barely see into the distance. he's currently at the East Outpost looking almost directly at the Allied Airfield structures.

The above should demonstrate the scale difference I'm talking about.

You can't see because of the poor draw distance. I'm not saying BF2 maps are smaller than BF3 but AK maps aren't tiny.

Relative to the speed of vehicles they are smallish, but that is just my opinion. They got a fine size for some infantry + IFV's, perhaps mixed with a single tank or two. But if you look at other games/series, the maps in AK are quite large.

But in this case I'll acknowledge that the view distance is poor, but relative to the speed of the vehicles those maps were huge.

Maybe it has something to do with visual quality and performance as well. I'd rather have BF3's graphics, than miles and miles where you won't see many people, and the graphics have to be toned down. That just makes no sense.

I would gladly sacrifice looks for a greater gameplay experience, to a certain point of course. Just because a game is pretty doesn't make it good (Crysis 3 anyone?). I found BF3 to be very well optimized considering my system and the fact it can run without serious dips on my 1440p monitor. If your system is brought to its knees by trees and grass, you might want to consider lowering the graphical options or buy a new rig.

Why are people whining about single player, they have to include it to combat CoD, BF2 could afford not to have SP because CoD4:MW wasn't out back then.

This, totally.

Personally, I don't mind paying full price for MP only (or even SP only!) as long as it's good enough. Better than paying full price for a half-assed job, right? I didn't even finish BF3's campaign. Tried tho.

I also think they could use a little change. Ok, so Vietnam was out for BC2. How about 2143 like so many fans want? Or something more along the lines of Special Forces? That would be pretty cool. I don't know, there's so many possibilities but they're doing the same thing over and over. Hell, even MoH is modern warfare ( ;) ) now

It's really a matter of opinion, but I have no problem with map sizes in BF3, in fact some are way too big (the AK maps), other than that I find most of them pretty nicely sized for their environment. Just like graphics don't mean better game play (and I have no idea why this must be repeated to the point of obsession, because I've never seen anyone say it does), bigger maps don't either. There is a fine balance, but no one will probably ever get it perfect, about the only way to do that would be to make the game and/or map yourself. Maybe Arma would be more to your liking?

I do in fact love the ArmA series and I've been playing it since I was introduced properly to it in the first ArmA, and trust me up until ArmA3 it has not been a pleasure to play competitively in it, that is why I look to BF for my PvP fix.

The Battlefield series has suffered in their attempt to make it more like CoD with vehicles. Maps have gotten smaller, players are being funneled into killzones for maximum chaos. That is not what the Battlefield I remember was about, it used to be about teamwork, making every attack count. Not just mindless rush to the flag. I know not all servers were like this, but I always managed to find one that were.

The community has gotten worse the recent years, during BC2 and BF3 the PC community has been overrun by kiddies, I just don't remember it to be that bad as it is now, and I feel that the "Bro Shooter" direction this franchise has taken is to blame.

That said I cannot wait to see if they've fixed it in the beta because I still had fun with BF3, but not as much as I could have.

I will admit I jumped forward on this one, I know its not confirmed. But I just have a feeling that Command mode will be in the final version, please DICE let us experience teamwork once again

Yeah less "chokepoint focused" maps, command mode, and PROPER IN GAME VOIP would be great. TBH I might not get BF4 unless it has all of the above, but if it does I will :)

Just include muting, because I don't want to know how many people my mother has slept with :)

Seems a little odd that TF2 has had this built in forever, any specific reason why BF3 didn't have it, anyone know?

I can't think of a reason other than the Bro shooter-fication of the series. I'm certain that BF2 had squad communication, which worked out pretty well.

But Battlelog had a VOIP function, it was poor but it worked, but only with friends I think. Kinda ruined the ability to get teamwork going with randoms.

Typial, but I still really hope that atleast a third faction will be implemented, I want a European Army and I do remember something about a Chinese Type-99 was spotted in the artwork. And then I hope the Command Feature will return. (Servers should be able to choose this feature)

An European army would be gorgeous, just thinking about Challenger 2's and Leopards rolling side by side as a Typhoon blows across them makes my body tingle!

    • WordArt was cool. We now have color fonts as a substitute although Word only supports COLRv0 and COLRv1 (Fraud OS 11 only). The OpenType SVG color font format needs to be supported by Office. Adobe's apps support it
