Soft Forum: MS Starting to Block MS A/C's That Were Used to Install WinBlue Build 9364

I don't know if it's true, I always install win8 with local a/c's, could anybody verify? :o

Google translate:

Official localization to build 9364 not. I'm trying to build Russian langpack of Windows 8 RTM, but I do not work Russification, ie language in the installer written Russian, and sets in English. We'll work on it further. :) If the Poles turned to translate at least modern UI, so there simply have been a mistake in the integration package.

P.S. Another sad news. Microsoft started blocking accounts used in the installation of the assembly. It was not issued for public use, noting the excess number of activations from different live ID, started just block all accounts.

Apple like behavior ? how they're blocking accounts installing illegal software they have no license for. you're kinda stupid if you link your illegal software with the livense owners online system anyway.

and it's merely a rumor anyway, but it wouldn't surprise me if true, it makes sense.

A/C = Microsoft Accounts?

This is again the culture problem that I see. That is some very Apple-like behavior if true.

Hasn't effected me, they don't know which ones are OEM beta testers and which ones are the enthusiasts. Either way, I don't see how it's "Apple like" if they ban accounts that are using illegally obtained software...

I don't see this happening. I mean, it's not like they're losing out on money. Microsoft didn't ban users who did this with the RTM leak, which in my eyes was a bigger leak as a whole for the company.

Apple has been removing install serials from all their software so it would be quite the opposite behavior.

Plus, they have none of that activation BS. Would be nice if MS got rid of that, too, but admittedly they have to be far more concerned about software piracy than Apple.

Doubtful... Still though, it's not a good idea to broadcast to MS that you've installed a leaked internal build of Windows. Probably a good idea to wait until a consumer preview and/or RTM to use your MS account.

the difference is that OSX can (generally) only be installed on Apple computers, part of the price for said computer is a lifetime license for OSX. every OSX sold on disk is technically an upgrade, not a full license, since you already have that.

removing all verification from Windows would be a disaster, as much as Windows is pirated today, it would be nothing compared to if you made it that easy. practically noone would buy it outside of the oem that came with their computer.

Some people spread the same FUD when Windows 8 builds were starting to leak.

That was different, Tom, the RTM rumor was if you activate with the leaked KMS server than MS will block your M/S a/c, but many people already pointed out there was no way MS could prove the actual activation was done by the accountee.

But this time, if you did enter the MS account(along with your password, of course) to install the leaked build, then the evidence is solid.

Guess we just have to wait and see. :)

I seriously doubt they would do this.. Even though it is "illegal" for us to use the build, they aren't in any shape to turn away users.. turning off my account would turn me away from MS completely.

The only thing that would make MS go after people is if they are somehow hurting their bottom line. These leaked builds do not hurt them at all. In fact, one could argue that all of the hype of the leaked builds actually grows interest in their product.

Kind of funny that there was almost zero leak activity before the initial product release of Windows 8. And now that the first major release has had lackluster market performance and it's time for a major update, the leaks are popping up all over the place. ;-)

What rock did you crawl from? There were leaks of private pre-alpha Win8 builds. This is merely one in a long line of Windows leaks.

As for likelihood that Microsoft bans such accounts, likely! I mean, c'mon, they ban hacked Xbox accounts and with the consolidation of your Microsoft Accounts identities, it's easier than ever to conduct a wholesale ban again individuals... individuals not smart enough to have a second around for "education and evaluation" purposes.

Yes, i knew there were some... I had them. Hence the "almost". Are you seriously going to argue that they did not keep a much, much tighter lid on the initial release builds than they are now for "blue"? If so, perhaps you should crawl back under the rock you came from.

This whole story is BS. Nothing to see here, move on lol.

I've been testing sync features in 8.1 for a while now with my MS account and nothing has happened. As have many others. More than likely this guy on soft-forum violated the stupid skydrive TOS. This is why I refuse to use skydrive.
