Were you ever able to determine which registry keys get modified to enable to Quick Lauch toolbar? If so, could you share it with me? It's baffling me. Thanks!

This script will do it... too bad I don't know how to make it run silent (without you seein' the box popup)

TurnonQV.vbs

you tried adding PSKILL ?

I.E make a batch to run it silenty then use PSKILL?

Hmmm... nope, I didn't try that... but I did find this binary on SourceForge, supposedly will make it run silently. Can anyone veryify? Here's the code:

Run ("rundll32.exe shell32.dll,Options_RunDLL 1", "", @SW_HIDE)
WinWaitActive ( "Taskbar and Start Menu Properties")
WinShow ( "Taskbar and Start Menu Properties", "", @SW_HIDE)
WinActivate ( "Taskbar and Start Menu Properties")
$var = ControlCommand ( "Taskbar and Start Menu Properties", "", "Button5", "IsChecked", "")
If $var = 1 Then
WinClose ("Taskbar and Start Menu Properties")
Else
ControlCommand ( "Taskbar and Start Menu Properties", "", "Button5", "Check", "")
ControlCommand ( "Taskbar and Start Menu Properties", "", "Button11", "Check", "")
EndIf

I also found this:

Here's the registry key used for the quicklaunch taskbar.

You'll have to change the user string and the value itself, since it points the the location of the quicklaunch bar to show... If

you import that one in your registry and go see it in regedit, u'll see what I mean.

You have to import this key while the user is logged off cause when he will logoff, this setting will be overwritten. Haven't found

a way around this yet.

hey, i just did a clean install of XP then autopatcher XP and some updates came up:

Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 6 SP1 (KB824145)

Download size: 2.1 MB

Security issues identified in Internet Explorer could allow an attacker to compromise systems with Internet Explorer installed (even if it is not used as the Web browser). For example, an attacker could run programs on a computer used to view the attacker's Web site. Download this update from Microsoft to help protect your computer. After installation, you may have to restart your computer. Read more...

Security Update for Windows XP (KB810217)

Download size: 1.4 MB

A security issue has been identified in FrontPage Server Extensions. This vulnerability could allow an attacker to run code of their choice on your system. You can help protect your computer by installing this update from Microsoft. After you install this item, you may have to restart your computer. Once you have installed this item, it cannot be removed. Read more...

Update for Windows XP HighMAT Support in CD Writing Wizard (KB831240)

Download size: 1.8 MB

This extension allows you to create HighMAT CDs of your digital photos, music, and videos optimized for viewing on consumer electronic devices and player software. HighMAT CD Writing offers easier navigation and preserves important information about your music, photos, and videos like song name, artist name, album name, and genre. After you install this item, you may need to restart your computer. Read more...

also you should add this too:

I've got another idea for modularization: VB6 DLL files for each database source.

AP would ship with APDB.dll, which would load the main AutoPatcher database information. The API would be:

Public Class Item

...

End Class

Public Class Category

...

End Class

Public Class Items

...

End Class

Public Class Categories

...

End Class

Public Class Document

Public Items As Items

Public Categories As Categories

End Class

Public Class Connect

Public Function GetDocument(autoPatcherFolder As String) As Document

...

End Function

End Class

It would instanstantiate Connect in the DLL and load. It would make it possible for application developers to make custom DLLs for their app that automatically add the entries to AP, and new user-created database formats, like APXML.

Another idea: For plain databases, have it load any number of databases from an APDIR\db folder.

Directory structure of AP should be:

APDIR

APDIR\installdata (content for installation)

APDIR\batchdata (batch files)

APDIR\db (databases)

APDIR\pf (program files)

There should also be an AP Update Wizard, with a file format that describes operations to upgrade AP to the latest release. I might have a go at such a wizard.

look at those 2 patches i underlined, one of them is old, there is a newer patch in the windows media player 9 updates section and the other one is not needed, you have it in the windows media player 9 updates in there..

Dude! Total good call!! (Y) I never would have noticed! Thanks! That'll save me a good 5 MB or so. :) If you notice anything else, please let me know! :D

    • From all that I've read on the subject--not that much, really--it looks to me like companies and parents are trying to protect themselves from children using their parents accounts to run up giant bills, sometimes in the thousands of dollars, and the first the parents know about it is when they get sued... Internet companies have been sued for tailoring their ads to children, which is kind of old news. My belief is that policing starts at home with the parents, and the reason that so many laws that can't be enforced are being passed is because parents are eschewing their responsibilities, claiming not enough time, not enough knowledge, etc. Giving kids cell phones sans Internet connectivity is a good place to start--confine Internet activity to PCs in the home that the parents regulate. My kids are all grown and gone, I'm happy to say... They have their own kids to worry about.

    • BTW DXVK is also available on Windows and offers similar benefits like on Linux when it comes to performance, at least in some titles. The Raceroom racing sim for example even offers DXVK as one of its officially supported options and it can achieve ridiculous improvements in certain situations, like quite literally doubling (or more) the framerates
    • Nvidia GeForce NOW to support 18 more games in June, including Gothic 1 Remake by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe The start of a new month means Nvidia is also preparing a whole month of additions to its GeForce NOW supported games list. The cloud gaming platform received its first update of June today, revealing games like Jurassic World Evolution 3 and Gothic 1 Remake for the service, while at the same time revealing what's incoming in the next few weeks too. Here are the games joining GeForce NOW's supported list this week: Jurassic World Evolution 3 (New release on Xbox, available on Game Pass) Fatekeeper (New release on Steam, available June 2) House Flipper Remastered Collection (New release on Steam, available June 4) Pro Cycling Manager 26 (New release on Steam, available June 4) GOALS (New release on Steam, available June 4) Gothic 1 Remake (New release on Steam, available June 5) NTE: Neverness to Everness (Launcher) The Outer Worlds: Spacer's Choice Edition (Steam and Xbox, available on Game Pass) Tomb Raider I-III Remastered (Epic Games Store) XCOM: Enemy Unknown (Steam) Nvidia also plans to add support for these games during the rest of June, though more titles will probably land as weeks go by too: STARSEEKER: Astroneer Expeditions (New release on Steam, June 11) SpaceCraft (New release on Steam, June 11) Denshattack! (New release on Steam and Xbox, available on Game Pass, June 17) The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales (New release on Steam, June 18) Dark Scrolls (New release on Steam, June 22) Monopoly: Star Wars Heroes vs. Villains (New release on Steam and Ubisoft, June 30) Farever (Steam) FATAL FURY: City of the Wolves (Steam) Keep in mind that, unlike subscription services like Game Pass or EA Play, a copy of a game must be owned by the GeForce NOW member (or at least have a license via PC Game Pass) to start playing via Nvidia's cloud servers. There is also a limit to how many hours subscribers can use the service per month.
