Yeah... okay... showing off multiple games, the OS, the new controller and how it works is close to vaporware.

Uh yea... Windows Longhorn showed multiple demos etc etc. and it is a classic vaporware. I said sony came close to that. I don't think anybody has actually seen the complete OS yet (I might have missed it though).

Did you just bring up Longhorn to compare (even if not 1:1) with the PS4? Woahzers, today's entertainment for sure. The OS featured pretty prominently in the demonstration, would of been hard to miss. It was shown in February, to not expect any tweaks or changes between then and the end of the year would be incredibily naive, and dumb, from a software developers point of view - If you somehow expected "complete" 7 months from release, or are hinting at that.

Sometimes I forget I'm on Neowin here, you know, a tech/software website....

Exactly. To argue that a gaming console reveal could even be considered vapoprware because they did not focus on elements of the OS is ludicrous. It is a GAMING console, they have shared the fact their emphasis is on games, so seriously who cares about exact details of the OS. They talked about the new details that would be related to gaming, so what else do we need to see? How Netflix is going to look? What the settings screen for advanced networking configuration looks like? No. We will learn that (pretty damn irrelevant ****) over time. Wow. Just wow.

You do realize that Longhorn was the code name for Windows Vista, which was actually released to the public, correct?

That's not vaporware.

Actually it wasn't Vista is more like Longhorn Mk2, Longhorn was scrapped and they started over with Vista which actually had a different codename.

LOL. Yes I did. Longhorn was a vaporware because most of the demos were not real. If you read my post again, I didn't call PS4 a vaporware. As I said, the only OS features I saw were sharing screens so I probably missed the other parts.

Working as an enterprise software developer, I think I know how software development works. So don't be condescending on that.

And for the record, if Microsoft doesn't show the box in action today - I will call them out on it (as if it matters to "M$" :laugh:).

That's not vaporware.

I know but the end result (Vista) was nowhere near to what was shown (features wise) and almost everything shown in 2003 was vaporware.

No. I care about if they actually have a prototype in place for the box. Do they have the system architecture finalized. I haven't seen a single technical breakdown by anyone outside. I am referring to the detailed architecture breakdowns done by ars for PS3 and Xbox 360 when they were announced.

No, it always kept the same codename right up until they gave it the official name of Vista. The big difference internally was that it was called Longhorn "D1" for a while after the development reboot.

Because games and testing.

The final hardware which was shown assembled, broken down and working, needs months of testing and then production, and of course the games.

      Good review, and yeah the benchmark breakdown is pretty clear but also a little messy in a good way. It’s kinda interesting to see where the RX 9070 GRE slides in between the 7800 XT and the 9070 XT , especially when it comes to AI tasks and Blender style workloads. The side by side with Nvidia’s RTX 5070 and 4070 makes it feel obvious just how competitive the mid range GPU scene has gotten lately, and that’s great for creators and gamers too since you can pick based on your priorities rather than only chasing one single thing.

      That's it. I finally uninstalled Firefox because they often keep pushing buggy updates, only to test them later and make users suffer. No longer is it my alternative browser to Edge. What a waste of energy. Firefox is bad for the environment, just like Chrome (wasting RAM/energy).
