Ferrari, the Italian car brand known for its luxury sports cars, has also joined the EV bandwagon, unveiling its first electric vehicle, the Luce. This four-door EV is also Ferrari’s first five-seater.
Ferrari has been teasing the Luce over the past few months, but the company has now officially given a first look at its first-ever EV. At first glance, it is clear that the Luce is quite different from Ferrari’s traditional luxury sports cars and adopts a more futuristic design language. The new design has sparked mixed reactions on social media, with some users praising it while others criticizing it. According to Ferrari chief executive Benedetto Vigna, the Luce's development took nearly 5 years (via BBC).

Under the hood, the vehicle features four permanent-magnet electric motors. The front motors produce up to 282 horsepower, while the two rear motors deliver 831 horsepower. Ferrari says the Luce can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 2.5 seconds and reach 124 mph in just 6.8 seconds. The top speed is rated at 193 mph. The car is powered by a 122-kWh (gross) battery pack, and Ferrari claims a range of up to 330 miles.
Ferrari Luce sales begin later this year in Europe, with pricing starting at 550,000 euros (roughly $640,000). The vehicle is expected to arrive in the US market in the second quarter of 2027.

What makes the Ferrari Luce particularly interesting for the tech industry is that the car was designed in collaboration with LoveFrom, the design firm founded by former Apple design chief Jony Ive and Marc Newson.
Jony Ive is Apple’s legendary designer who worked closely with Steve Jobs on the design of the iPhone, iPad, and Mac computers. Marc Newson also joined Apple in 2014 to work on the Apple Watch design. Ive is currently working with OpenAI on the development of AI-powered devices.
