Unofficial AutoPatcher for Windows 2000 Thread

i'll say it once, and i'll say it a billion times...

WE NEED AN EXPRESS INSTALLER

especially when you start creating different versions for different machines. it would save bandwidth in a situation like this when you have patch overlay between operating systems.

You can keep saying it. As it stands right now, there will be no express installer. I've stated many times why there won't be, and if you want you can go through these threads and read them. I have my reasons, and most people have agreed with me. I'm sorry you want an express installer... it's possible one day that I may change my mind, but right now it still stands "No".

AP can't be programmed to download updates from Microsoft's server. Besides, if it did, we would be copying MSFN. They are doing the same thing except that theirs downloads update from Microsoft's servers.

Not for sure yet, but I can tell you it won't be bigger than AutoPatcher XP (183 MB)... but it won't be tiny (less than 50 MB). :)

If you are including SP4 network install in there, then yea, it will be 180MB... :ninja:

Well I'm still debatin' that. Mainly because I've yet to test it out... I'll know for sure as we get closer to release as whether it will have it included, or it will just have a link to it.

Maybe you can test it out for me... do a silent install from 2000 Gold to SP4, then without rebooting, try to install the latest Updates. If it works... then it's a plus for me adding it. Also, check and see what happens if someone with SP4 installed and a few of the new updates does the same (silent install of SP4 overtop plus the current updates). :)

:p

I really think that you Should NOT NOT NOT add SP4 to the AP2000 edition.

Heh, you did the same to the XP one (no SP1a installer in there)

If you try to silently install SP4 in a SP4 system it probably would return an error or install nothing. I ran it on normal mode and it launched the installer for sP4

Well, see... you completely missed the point. hehe :p I pretty much know that those two things will cause errors in 2000, but I'd rather people who have suggested it be included try it for themselves and realize it won't work rather than me just saying "no". Trust me, the only way I'd include it is if someone could make it do all that and have no errors each time (anyone who's up for the challange can go for it! (Y)). :) What will happen is that in the Readme (just like in the AutoPatcher XP one) there will be a link to the full install of Service Pack 4. And I'll make the suggestion that it get downloaded, burnt to CD, and kept with them. ;)

NOTE TO ALL: If you find any Windows 2000 Server SP4 or Advanced Server SP4 updates please post here. We are going to try make it into an update package for all Win2k editions. YES! There are Win2k server-only patches.

SOOOO Um how is this going Flish FUNNNNNN :pinch:

Thank you, yes, do what he says! And this is actually goin' fine. :) Don't worry man... just been busy with the site, the Dec Update, and other things... but it's comin'! :D

Is this set for 12/10/03 release? :pinch:

When are the monthly security updates coming out?

Actually I'm thinking that if I get APXP out on Dec 15th, this can be out on the 21st. :) Then, afterwards, they will be released on the same day each month. And I think Microsoft is going for Dec 9th or 10th. :)

What are you gonna do since there are no freakin December updates because of lazy MS coders :x

Well I'm keepin' the release dates the same... just so I guess now I can get some extra testing in. :)

II WWAANNTT AAPP22000000!! :p

Comon it's past the 15th :o or is it delayed

Delayed a little while I get everything in order... the exe and everything is made for it... now I just need to d/l and compile all the updates. :)

    • On the one hand, it shouldn't be difficult. You buy a computer, you decide what OS you want, which browser etc. Simple enough. But that's the techie side of things. My sister, my mother, wouldn't bother with such a thought. And I'm pretty sure that if you presented a window asking them what to pick they would say, "I don't care! I just want to access my Email!"

    • Anyone who expects MS to play fair is a complete idiot.
    • Everyone behaves like Internet Explorer just never happened and Edge is whole new thing all while Microsoft is pulling the exact same ###### it did back then. Sigh.
