If half a dozen reports from several well-sourced reporters are to be believed, Apple has a huge redesign coming in iOS 7. Gone are the textures that have characterized iOS for six years now, replaced by a flatter user interface that will still maintain the overall feel of the operating system. While much remains a mystery, we already know what several redesigned elements in iOS 7 look like ? not from a leak or a bunch of rumors, but because Apple has already shown them to us.

Apple device users should look no further than Apple?s official WWDC 2013 app for iOS if they are interested in getting a sneak peek at some of the new design elements coming to iOS 7. While things like app icons remain a mystery, the new color scheme and design identity are beyond apparent in Apple?s new app:

The general layout and button shapes are the same to ensure that Apple avoids the shock of a drastic visual overhaul ? Microsoft?s Windows 8 has shown us what can happen when visual changes are too severe ? but the flatter, more minimal graphics are a fresh new look for iOS.

Here is a comparison shot assembled by Twitter user ?@yuize? that shows the new look of iOS 7 in the official WWDC 2013 app alongside last year?s WWDC app and the WWDC 2011 app:

The layout is cleaner, the look is more minimal and the colors certainly seem to pop a bit more, but longtime iOS users likely won?t find the new look terribly jarring, which is a fear any company has when refreshing a user interface.

Apple?s annual WWDC show kicks off on Monday and iOS 7 is expected to debut during the opening keynote, which starts at 1:00 p.m. EDT, 10:00 a.m. PDT.

I don't know. Just seems improbable to me that they would officially leak the new look just one week before introducing the new version. It may indicate the direction they're going into of course, but I doubt it's going to look exactly like that. We'll see soon enough though...

I still see gradients.

The horror... :o

I don't see how much more they can add to iOS. Every "major" update they've released after iOS 4 has been minor. In my opinion, they should cease "major" OS development after iOS 7 is released.

There's your full quote.

I don't see how much more they can add to iOS. OK - you don't see where they should take it. Personally neither do I - but I have no idea what they are adding so...

In my opinion, they should cease "major" OS development after iOS 7 is released. Yup, that's your opinion. It's based on the above point, no doubt. Fine. But like I say, it's moot seeing as neither of us know what's to come.

And let's take a look at your response to my opinion.

Right... Nope! Implying my opinion is wrong, with a hint of sarcasm. Uncalled for.

Just because you can't see where to take it, doesn't mean nobody else can. Again, where did I state nobody else can imagine new things for iOS? Based off the fact that Apple hasn't changed much since iOS 4, I can only assume they are going to continue developing minor updates and call them major.

Don't try to start an argument for no reason. Your posts are very HQ and I respect you for it, but man, don't try to cut down my opinions.

They are really playing it safe.. Nothing major has being changed. I like it, but I was hoping for a much bigger change. Silly me, of course they cannot do anything drastic.

While I don't expect a much bigger change, those are not the actual icons...

with the help of talented designer Surenix, we were able to reproduce some of these icons to give you an exclusive look at what some stock app icons on iOS 7 might look like.

If anyone is expecting a drastic UI change then I'm going to say don't hold your breath. Apple is in a position right now were they can't drastically change the UI in fear of losing users. Expect smaller changes over time till you get to, say, iOS9 and they finally give you widgets on the home screen. :p

Those are mocks made by a designer who was trying flatter styles in anticipation. These are NOT from iOS 7.

    • Payday 2 engine upgrade adds 64-bit and DX11 support, drastically shrinks install size by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe Payday 2, the most popular entry in the heisting game franchise, is getting a surprising update after all these years. This is slated to be a complete engine upgrade that will enhance almost every aspect of the 13-year-old title, targeting performance, loading times, file size, rendering backend, and more. Developer Sidetrack Games is planning a beta to test out the new version ahead of the full public launch. The development team today revealed that the long-awaited upgrade to the 64-bit architecture is happening with this Diesel 3.0 engine update. By letting the game use more ram than 4GB, it is said to improve stability and compatibility on most hardware. It should also help modders in the long term with implementing larger changes too. "While many of the changes are made on the backend and not everything will be visible to you guys because it is a massive rewrite of the entire codebase, there will be a lot of things that you can look forward to," Sidetrack explained. Payday 2 will also hop over from DirectX 9 to 11. Instead of visual improvements, this is slated to reduce the amount of VRAM used by the title, letting more lower-end hardware access the title and run it better. Since these changes would require a complete redownload of the game anyway, Sidetrack says it has revamped "the game's packaging and bundling system." This should reduce the installation size from 86GB to 32GB. "So, now it's time to finally move the game to your SSDs," added the studio. The Payday 2 Diesel Engine 3.0 update is entering open beta on June 30 for Steam users. No console release plans were announced today. Sidetrack Games says it has been working on this complete rewrite of the codebase for the last nine months. While these changes should break most mods, the studio encouraged modders to use the beta period to repair their creations with support from the development team.
    • From the incredibly asinine idea of disposable AI datacenter satellites launching into low Earth orbit to building out yet another unnecessary mobile network, this con-man will do ANYTHING to scam investor suckers and get his stock prices up. This stinks of panic to me. Good.
