Neowin Monthly Photography Challenge - August '13

Recommended Posts

Welcome to the Neowin Monthly Photography Challenge!

This month's challenge closes on the 24th August.

The entered photos will be collected into a single thread with a poll, these will be voted on by everyone.

As last month's winner, abysal, has chosen this month's theme: "Reflection"

It can be interpreted in many ways, there isn't only one definition of reflection.

If an image is not submitted using the sites listed, it will NOT be accepted for the competition, the EXIF data is required for proof of entry

You sure were. I like that one. I like this theme. I have a bunch I could use already from the weekend, but I think I'll hold out for now.

Thanks :)

I can't believe we are pretty much half way through with no more entries. I suspect it being the summer may have something to do with it and a lot of people are on their holidays etc.

Thanks :)

Just waiting still. I haven't processed any of the shots I took this weekend. There were a couple I wanted to see for entering. I hopefully won't forget this time.

I'll be uploading one sometime, just need to pull my finger out and do something.

Aight get to it both of ya!

Fine, but I've got 10 days to find something better, haha. I wanted to use my car but I haven't gotten anything that I really like yet. This one was cool though, caught a stream on the way down.

On the plus, I think my photography/post processing skills have increased quite a bit recently, so hopefully I start getting more quality shots. Still learning this camera.

Having a nice fancy camera certainly allows for a little more flexibility with somethings but you don't need it to take a great photo.

How does one post a flicker link please?

When you post, there is a little tool for posting pic's as long as you have the URL to the picture itself.

Yep know all about that ta but I cant seem to get a valid link from google+ or flickr the later says use the 365d86d29dc9ece5eea8d6f5034eb817.png shortcut but it doesnt appear to show a direct link

Oh I see, sorry, didn't mean to think so little of you!

I see it's hosted on Flickr so if you go to your photo stream and select the image, it should open it to a more detailed view etc. Then if you right click you get options to view in a specific size, I pick Medium, from there then you can right click and should be able to get the Image URL.

Not sure if there is an easier way but that's how i have done it.

this is yours...

I'm going to try and upload mine through Picasa, see if that works, as I already have an account there.

The link I get from Google+ shows the picture but not the EXIF info. I have this link here for that, which goes to the folder.

    • A different thing with Russia. When you say is it better, depends on things. It is better that we don't have the E.U making rules and laws that have nothing to do with them. Is the trading part better? No, that is really mucked up, but then we knew that was going to happen and we would have make agreements, like we do with other parts of the world. Freedom of movement is certainly better, but could be improved, we still need more control over our borders. do you live in the U.K?
    • So what am I quoting from them? I never listened to what Farage or his cronies said. I wanted the U.K to leave the E.u years before the referendum and it had nothing to do with Farage and his cronies. So what country do you live in? Did we work much better together? We were always at logger heads with the E.U because we disagreed with them so much. Maggie was always on at them. I would have thought the E.U was glad to get rid of us as we stopped the integration or made it a two tier. Now without us they can integrate more. I would not have voted out if it was just a trading block and we can still work together on somethings.

    • Apple reportedly looks to blacklisted Chinese memory chips as RAM prices climb by Karthik Mudaliar Image via Apple Apple is reportedly trying to get a clearance from the Trump administration to buy memory from ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT) to get some relief from soaring DRAM prices. As per a report by the Financial Times, Apple approached the Commerce Department more than a month ago and also spoke to other officials and allies in Washington. For starters, CXMT is a company that's already been placed on the Pentagon's list of Chinese military companies. The Chinese company is the country's top DRAM maker. For Apple, the timing is certainly awkward but not surprising. Tim Cook had recently warned that Apple would have to raise prices because AI companies are buying up large amounts of memory for data centers, and just like that, Apple raised MacBook and iPad prices. Micron also recently revealed that customers have committed billions of dollars to secure memory supply years in advance, which shows us how aggressive securing infrastructure has become. This gives suppliers such as Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron more leverage, while pushing hardware makers to look for alternatives. CXMT is one of those alternatives, but not the simplest one. Apple has spent many years trying to diversify parts of its supply chain away from China, especially for final assembly, while still depending heavily on Chinese manufacturing and suppliers. Even domestic brands from China are moving towards CXMT and YMTC instead of relying on Samsung, Micron, and SK Hynix. For Apple, though, it would invite more scrutiny than local Chinese companies. For now, this is more like a lobbying effort rather than a confirmed supply deal. There's no official statement from either of the parties. What is clearer, though, is the pressure behind such a request. AI demand has certainly made hardware a bottleneck, and companies are trying everything they can to bring things back to normal, even if that means making politically sensitive choices. • I did test it a month or so back, but ... the results I expect to be on the first page are not there.
