Microsoft's Penello: No way is Xbox One giving up 30% power advantage t

with outdated / wrong info

- PS4's APU is not 50% faster, its GPU has 50% more specs. PS4's on chip bus is slower compared to XBO.

- XBO's graphics driver was updated recently, is this article before or after the update?

and look - they say "the cloud" will make XBO faster than PS4 - what do PS4 fanboys think of it now?

So let me get this straight. 50% more CUs. 50% faster ALUs. 50% faster memory, better drivers, yet forza 5 is running double the framerate and resolution as other racers on ps4,even though according to anonymous sources the ps4 is almost 200% as powerful as xbox one.

That meme is stupid. Yes, you couldn't just flip a switch and turn it off. Why do you think they delayed launch in 8 countries? I don't know who that Angry Joe guy is but I know enough of software development to understand that such late changes can cause major scheduling problems.

So the DRM reversal was the cause of the delay in 8 countries, but not in the 13 others? That makes perfect sense to you does it?

Well the DRM reversal might have suddenly needed a larger team of people working on it, drawing people away from other areas of the XB1 team, causing a cascade of changes and schedule muckups, the end result being launch delays in some countries.

That's my theory.

Microsoft have already made public the reasons why the X1 is delayed for those countries and it's not because of the DRM, and it's not a case of who's working on what.

Albert Penellow said as such on NeoGAF. The DRM reversal was one of the reasons they had to cut back on launch and launch features.

Let's play a game of Penello Says!

Following a demo of the console's new interface, which uses voice controls for features like game capture, he confirmed that the extra localisation work this has required is the key reason behind the console's delayed launch in eight territories.

Looks like we can't take his word ;) But seeing as DRM hasn't delayed it in any of the other territories, I think we can safely assume that excuse is BS

I finally watched part of the Build 2013 session on Direct X tiled resources in Xbox One and Windows 8.1 (which GP007 has mentioned many times). If Microsoft can deliver on them, PS4's raw spec advantage will be significantly cut down in texture resolution.

So? He has already said that localization for them is not limited to translation. It also covers services, marketplace in those regions.

Are you really saying that changing plans doesn't affect development schedule? really?

I don't think the DRM change resulted in the delay in those countries, but its possible that they forced changes to certain features of the console that added to the 'localization' delay.

Think of it this way, if MS had a platform feature set that included the game sharing and such, all of that has to be localized.  When they decided to change their plans and had to pull back those features from the launch, they also had to re-localize the altered interface. That might have been the reason they had originally targeted 21 regions, but then had to cut it down to 13 after they saw they could not re-localize every region in time for the launch.

Either way, it doesn't really matter what caused the delay, its happening and that's that.

Well, he admitted one thing, PS4 is faster, not perhaps by 30%+ but it's faster nonetheless.

(And by the way Direct X is... well, I'm not exactly sure if the most optimized API out there)

Don't you think actual performance depends on hardware and software ? Do you think Sony is on par with "World largest software" Microsoft ? Do you think Sony is good at Software ?

ps 3 is better than xb 360 in term of hardware but it does not make any difference in the real World.

Don't you think "Cost cutting and making loss Sony" will have more research than Microsoft ?

Do you give any real functions, that ps 4 provides and xb 1 cannot ?

All answers are No.

Well this article has reached the gaming mainstream news sources.  Machinima has run with the story in one of their daily update videos.

They basically pushed it as factual and assuming it was all true based on some pc builds they had done to compare the consoles.

So, if the article is not true, then MS needs to lay out details that set the record straight.  If it is true, then this will be a serious problem for them.  There is a difference in two consoles being close and their being a drastic difference between the two. This article makes it plain that they are saying its drastic, not even close.

I know I have heard people mention September 28th as a day when a MS NDA is lifted and we are supposed to hear more details about the hardware right? That would be MS' last chance to refute the claims being made.

MS have already responded to this article:

Ten years ago, you could argue that a console?s power was summed up in terms of a few of its specs, but Xbox One is designed as a powerful machine to deliver the best blockbuster games today and for the next decade.

Xbox One architecture is much more complex than what any single figure can convey. It was designed with balanced performance in mind, and we think the games we continue to show running on near-final hardware demonstrate that performance. In the end, we?ll let the consoles and their games speak for themselves.

:D

The Sony fanboyism is actually starting to push me more and more towards an XB1 as my first purchase.

Actually, someone I work with said something similar the other day. Though, you should get the console that has the games you like.

So? He has already said that localization for them is not limited to translation. It also covers services, marketplace in those regions.

I'm saying DRM removal wasn't the cause for the delay. I'm now also saying Penello can't keep track of his excuses and we should probably take what he says in future with a pinch of salt ;)

The Xbox1 will be plenty powerful..

Original tv programs, Skype, tv tv tv, sports, sports, sports,300k servers, New Xbox live, trying to finally spend on new ip's ($1-billion), better apps...well those are good enough for me...

And still more than enough power to give next gen gaming..good enough for me

    • This Dell 27 inch 4K 120Hz IPS monitor is really cheap after a very long time by Sayan Sen Recently we covered a really good deal on an AMD RX 9070 three-fan model that's available at slightly above its MSRP. If you are looking for a GPU for 1440p gaming that's around the performance of the Nvidia RTX 5070 you should most definitely check it out. Let's say that you are looking for a monitor to pair that up with too. The Samsung 49" G9 curved QD-OLED superultrawide is a good option that can provide an immersive experience. However despite being a very good deal currently (at $855), it may seem unaffordable to you, or you may simply not want to spend as much on a monitor. In that case Dell's S2725QS can be a very good option as it's on sale at the moment for its lowest price in over six months (purchase link under the specs table down below). The big highlight of the Dell S2725QS is its 27-inch IPS panel with a 3840 x 2160 (4K UHD) resolution, offering a high pixel density that can make text appear sharper while also providing plenty of screen space for productivity and media consumption. The display supports a refresh rate of up to 120Hz through both HDMI and DisplayPort, making it suitable not only for everyday desktop use but also for smoother gaming and scrolling. AMD FreeSync Premium support is included as well, helping reduce screen tearing during gaming sessions. The screen has fairly good brightness and color accuracy so you can use it for general work purpose, though photo/video editing is probably not going to be the best match for this. The technical specs of the Dell S2725QS are given in the table below: Specification Value Viewable Screen Size 27 in (68.58 cm) Screen Mode 4K UHD Maximum Resolution 3840 × 2160 Maximum Preset Resolution 3840 × 2160 @ 120 Hz Standard Refresh Rate 120 Hz Panel Technology In-plane Switching (IPS) Backlight Technology LED Edgelight System Pixel Density 163 PPI Response Time 8 ms GTG, 5 ms GTG, 4 ms GTG Horizontal Viewing Angle 178° Vertical Viewing Angle 178° Brightness 350 cd/m² (nits) Native Contrast Ratio 1500:1 Color Support 1.07 Billion Colors Color Gamut 99% sRGB (CIE 1931) Adaptive Sync AMD FreeSync Premium HDCP Support Yes Mount Type Panel Mount VESA Mount 100 × 100 mm Maximum Height Adjustment 13 cm Tilt -5° to 21° Swivel -30° to 30° Pivot ±90° Stand Adjustments Tilt, Swivel, Height, Pivot Glass Hardness 3H Horizontal Frequency 27–270 kHz (DisplayPort 1.4 / HDMI 2.1) Vertical Frequency 48–120 Hz (DisplayPort 1.4 / HDMI 2.1) Video Inputs 2 × HDMI 2.1 (HDCP 1.4 & 2.3), 1 × DisplayPort 1.4 (HDCP 1.4 & 2.3) Operating Temperature 0°C to 40°C Storage Temperature -20°C to 60°C Operating Humidity 10%–80% (Non-condensing) Storage Humidity 5%–95% (Non-condensing) Get it at the link below: Dell S2725QS 27-inch 4K 120Hz IPS monitor: $218.49 (Sold and Shipped by Amazon US) (Was: $280) Good to know This Amazon deal is U.S. specific, and not available in other regions unless specified.
