Demonoid Will Come Back Soon, Rebuild in Progress

After more than a year of downtime Demonoid?s website is again showing signs of life. A notice displayed on the website of the infamous BitTorrent tracker reveals that the people behind the site are planning a comeback. Talking to TorrentFreak Demonoid?s admin confirms the resurrection without revealing a time-frame or any other specifics. While many questions remain unanswered, former Demonoid users are getting excited.

As the single largest semi-private BitTorrent tracker that ever existed, Demonoid offered a home to millions of file-sharers.

This changed abruptly August last year when a series of troubled events took the site offline. When it was still down after a year, many had given up hope that it would ever return.

Today there?s a glimmer of hope to report to estranged Demonoid members, as the site is preparing for a glorious comeback. TorrentFreak contacted the Demonoid team via its demonoid.com email address where the Demonoid team confirmed the plans.

?I can?t give you any specifics at the moment, but yeah, we are planning to bring the site back,? we were told.

A follow-up request, for more details and whether the same people are behind the site, remains unanswered for now. However, a landing page on Demonoid.com and Demonoid.me brings more hope.

?We will rebuild! Coming back soon, please check back later. Thanks for your visit!,? it reads, with a Bitcoin donation option below.

Isn't this the second or third time they've "come back"?

By a small group of Anonymous skids that we're going to use it to lure people into downloading crap in an attempt to create a bot net.

The only reason I know this is because my niece has an ex who thinks he's a bad-ass anon and always talked trash about how Demonoid was junk and useless. To show how ignorant the idiot is, he kept bragging about how he is a hardcore Linux user and I asked: "What distro do you use? I use Ubuntu and Mint on occasion". He never heard of either and quickly changed the subject.

Anyway, back in June he was suddenly mentioning Demonoids return and how excited he was. Asked for a link and it was soo obvious what they were doing that I started cracking up. Called him out on it and he deactivated his Facebook lol.

It wasn't a .com or .me. Can't remember what it was, but it was a huge fail. Should find something about it through Google.

The latest version of libtorrent used contains many important fixes compared to the last one, including memory leaks and speed issues due to wrong caching logic on Windows. Qt 5.15.1 is used which offers far better HiDPI support. However, the torrent context menu will close after each tag selection. Brave users can download experimental builds from "Actions CI" on github. qBittorrent 4.3.0 changelog:

This is a minor release to address crashes on Windows related to torrents with URL seeds (HTTP Sources in the qbittorrent window). These crashes were exposed due to boost 1.74. Boost 1.73 doesn't have this problem. However, libtorrent also fixed the issue on their end so the Windows installers use the newer libtorrent code. The rest of the release is almost the same as v4.3.0. Since other platforms weren't affected only Windows builds will be made available for this version.

      Tixati 2.76
      by Razvan Serea

Tixati is a free and easy to use BitTorrent client featuring detailed views of all seed, peer, and file transfer properties. Also included are powerful bandwidth charting and throttling capabilities, and a full DHT implementation. Tixati is one of the most advanced and flexible BitTorrent clients available. And unlike many other clients, Tixati contains NO SPYWARE, NO ADS, and NO GIMMICKS.

Tixati portable version is meant to run on a USB flash drive or other portable media. It stores all its configuration files in the same folder as the executable binary files, and all file paths are stored in a format relative to the program executable folder.

It is important you do not delete the "tixati_portable_mode.txt" file within the executables folder. This file is what triggers Tixati to run in portable mode. (The executable binaries are actually the same as the standard edition binaries.)

When running the portable edition from a USB flash drive, especially one that is formatted in FAT16/FAT32, you may experience some lag when initially loading a new transfer. This is because initializing and allocating large files on flash-based media consumes a greater amount of time and resources compared to a conventional hard-drive.

      Tixati has the following features:

detailed views of all aspects of the swarm, including peers, pieces, files, and trackers support for magnet links, so no need to download .torrent files if a simple magnet-link is available super-efficient peer choking/unchoking algorithms ensure the fastest downloads peer connection encryption for added security full DHT (Distributed Hash Table) implementation for trackerless torrents, including detailed message traffic graphs and customizable event logging advanced bandwidth charting of overall traffic and per-transfer traffic, with separate classification of protocol and file bytes, and with separate classification of outbound traffic for trading and seeding highly flexible bandwidth throttling, including trading/seeding proportion adjustment and adjustable priority for individual transfers and peers bitfield graphs that show the completeness of all downloaded files, what pieces other peers have available, and the health of the overall swarm customizable event logging for each download, and individual event logs for all peers within the swarm expert local file management functions which allow you to move files to a different partition even while downloading is still in progress 100% compatible with the BitTorrent protocol Windows and Linux-GTK native versions available Tixati 2.76 changelog:

Vodafone develops new IoT tracker to help you find lost items
      by Paul Hill

Vodafone has announced that it has created an in-house IoT tracker called Curve. The idea behind the gadget is that you keep it with important items such as your keys and the tracker will help you find them by pinging your phone with an up-to-date location. Thanks to the in-built SIM card, you can even keep a tab on items outside your home where you do not have Wi-Fi connectivity.

The Curve tracker includes the following technologies:

A battery that lasts seven days Built-in SIM providing connectivity outdoors GPS, Wi-Fi, Cellular, and Bluetooth to ensure accurate location reporting Commenting on the gadget, Lutfu Kitapci, Managing Director, Vodafone Consumer, said:

The uses for this device are quite numerous, you can attach them to your keys to help find them more easily, keep it in your bag just in case it’s ever lost or stolen, or you could keep it in your car to help you figure out where you parked too.

Vodafone says that the Curve is just the first in a series of new smart tech products that it plans to unveil in the next few months. The device is available in the UK for £20 but will require a separate Vodafone Smart SIM subscription which cost £2 monthly for a minimum of 24 months, or £3 monthly for a minimum of 12 months. To use the device, you’ll also need to download the Vodafone Smart App where you can activate one of the subscriptions.
